**About Us**
TC Transcontinental Packaging, the Packaging Sector of TC Transcontinental (TSX: TCL.A TCL.B), positions itself as leader in flexible packaging in North America, and also has operations in Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, United Kingdom, New Zealand and China. This sector has over 4,000 employees, the majority of which are based in the United States. Its platform is comprised of one premedia studio and 28 production plants specializing in extrusion, lamination, printing and converting.
TC Transcontinental Packaging offers a variety of flexible plastic and paper products, including rollstock, bags and pouches, shrink films and bags, and advanced coatings. This sector services a variety of markets, including dairy, coffee, meat and poultry, pet food, agriculture, beverage, confectionery, industrial, consumer products and supermarkets.
**About this opportunity**
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of Production Supervisors who provide front-line leadership to all production employees. This role manages the production teams and departments to reduce waste, increase productivity, and improve profitability within the manufacturing operation. Responsibilities include production, physical plant up-keep, safety and quality control support, coordination with maintenance, shipping, scheduling, and customer service, and identifying and implementing needed capital improvements.
**What you will do**
- Coordinate, support, and guide a team of Supervisors leading the daily and nightly operations.
- Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day production operations.
- Encourage and promote a continuous improvement environment.
- Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
- Review established production schedules for all manufacturing departments to ensure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
- Reduce production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
- Monitor process KPI’s and implement improvement projects to optimize staff, process and product performance.
- Remove waste from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity.
- Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication initiatives, always cognizant of corporate and third-party audit standards.
- Participate in the hiring and training of all manufacturing personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to supervisory staff and production employees.
- Coordinate the relationship with our union workforce force and assist Human Resources in negotiating resolution on grievances.
**What you have to offer**
- 7+ years’ experience in a technically oriented manufacturing environment; 5+ years as a manager
- Flexographic printing/converting industry experience a plus.
- Proficient computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Teams) to analyze data, trends and participate in online meetings.
- Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, GMP’s, trouble shooting, etc. to drive improvement.
- Strong skills in leadership, coaching, and team building within a manufacturing organization.
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to work with a tenured and union workforce.
- Strong understanding of CI (Continuous Improvement) tools and techniques.
- A thorough understanding of the inter-relationship between manufacturing, engineering, materials, quality and purchasing with exposure in all of these areas.
- Demonstrated safety leadership capabilities, knowledge, and experience.
- Able to identify cost saving opportunities in production management, inventory management, machine productivity, and labor cost reduction.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with customers, suppliers, union leadership, and employees at every level of the organization.
