About the position

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director, Indigenous Ways and Decolonization and in collaboration with the department’s curators, the Curatorial Assistant supports the department in the development of the collection by cataloguing, documenting and maintaining works of art already in the collection and new acquisitions; carries out research related to exhibitions, and other programming which may include direct contact with artists, art dealers, other museum colleagues and private collectors. The incumbent also researches and supports the preparation of various didactic materials for installations and exhibitions; drafts replies in response to public or professional inquiries; assists in outreach, development and community relations and carries out various administrative functions related to programming, acquisitions and collection management.
**Requirements**:

- Specialized knowledge of Indigenous art gained through post-secondary studies or equivalent experience within arts/cultural organizations;
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous artists and communities in a gallery/museum/cultural organization
- Ability to coordinate, control and organize multiple functions and activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
