Saskatoon, Canada STC URBAN 1ST NSTNS Full time

Saskatoon Tribal Council Urban First Nations Services Inc. is seeking two full time Early Childhood Educators for STC’s Urban Early Learning Center (ELC). Early Childhood Educators (ECE) are responsible for all aspects of children’s learning, hygiene, health, wellbeing and safety. Under the supervision of the ELC Coordinator, Early Childhood Educators plan and implement play based, culturally appropriate programming that supports children’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development.

**RESPONSIBILITES/ DUTIES**
- Form appropriate and supportive working relationships with parents, families and staff;
- Dress children and change diapers, support toilet training in cooperation with parents;
- Assist with programming in accordance with program philosophy, provincial “Play and Exploration” Program Guidebook, and developmentally appropriate First Nations childrearing practices;
- Support children’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive development through a play based programming approach;
- Organize, sanitize and store toys/play equipment to provide organized activity areas, and play invitations;
- Have excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team by creating collegial, professional relationships with co-workers;
- Demonstrates flexibility through the ability to adapt to changing circumstances;
- Create and evaluate appropriate indoor and outdoor environments;
- Present self as a professional who demonstrates integrity, competence, accountability, openness to learning, and leadership
- Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills;
- Follow all STC Policies/Procedures, and ensure all Accreditation Standards are met;
- Understand/follow documentation procedures for all reporting requirements and maintain confidentiality;
- Other duties as requested by the Coordinator.

**ASSETS**
- Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, Metis and Saulteaux cultures;
- Ability to speak Cree, Saulteaux or Dakota;
- Experience and knowledge gained from living in an STC First Nation or on reserve;
- Play based trainings - Responding to Children’s Interests, Ages and Stages Screening Tool or other play based professional development workshops.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Ministry of Education Certification as an ECE I (Orientation), ECE II (Certificate) or ECE III (Diploma) or equivalent training and experience;
- First Aid/CPR Level “C” Certification;
- Safe Food Handling Certification;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in working with children who have diverse needs;
- Understands and follows Regulations, policies and procedures, and safety rules/practices
- Able to physically lift children up to 40 lbs and carry them as required, move furniture, and set up equipment;
- Able to work for extended periods of time while standing, able to get on the floor to play with children and move quickly to in an emergency;
- Training in Play and Exploration - minimum of Phase I and II;
- ** Must possess a **valid Saskatchewan driver’s license** (class 5)** **and meet STC's insurance requirements;**:
