As we aim to continue to garner earned media coverage locally, nationally and internationally, we are seeking an applicant who will support the media relations team through media tracking, social media posts, writing stories and liaising with journalists. **Responsibilities**: - Support daily media tracking - Support media relations team with research, writing and pitching stories - Write social media posts for Western’s main social channels - Assist in coordination of media relations training sessions and events - Work collaboratively to assist the media relations team in achieving priority goals **Requirements**: Education - Minimum Required:_ - Current university student or recent graduate with an interest or background in media relations, public relations and/or strategic communications - Studying in communications and marketing, public relations, media studies, journalism or a related field. Experience - Preferred Experience:_ - Social media - Media relations - Journalistic writing - Canva and/or Adobe Suite skills considered an asset Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes - Familiarity with media relations including current media landscape in Canada - Passionate about the field of media relations in higher education - Highly organized and attentive to detail - Strong writing ability both for editorial and social media - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities - Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Resourceful with a strong sense of accountability and initiative - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve team goals **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
