JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Management Team or designate, the Personal Care Aide is responsible for providing assistance, support, and basic skill training to tenants in their living environment while encouraging independence, responsibility, and healthy Iifestyle choices. They will also have a focus on medication support, hygiene assistance, housekeeping, harm reduction and coordination of community resources. The Personal Care Aide will observe and document the program participant’s health condition and environment, reporting and addressing unsafe conditions, and provide support and guidance.

**SALARY**: $30.64/hour (BCGEU grid 34) + $2.50/hour as a premium for night shifts

**POSITION TYPE**: Casual Relief

**SCHEDULE**: This is a casual relief position. Casuals will be called in to work to cover vacancies as they arise. Our programs run 24/7 365 days a year. We offer day, evening and overnight shifts which are generally 8 hours in length.

**START DATE**: As soon as possible
Pursuant to The Provincial Health Officer’s Order, the incumbent of this position is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We will only consider applicants who are fully vaccinated, or who have received an exemption from the Provincial Health Office. Proof of either must be provided in advance of any offer of employment being made.
PROGRAM
The Lux provides 92 units of supported housing to people who are coping with the realities of homelessness, substance use, and complex physical and mental health concerns. The Lux is staffed 24/7 by support workers, the building is monitored 24/7 by front desk staff at the main entrance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering, and lived experience of mental illness / addiction/ homelessness; Minimum education and experience includes:

- Health Care Attendant Certificate, including registration in good standing with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry, or equivalent education/experience
- A minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education in mental health and addictions, and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar setting with a mental health and addictions related agency, with responsibility for front line service delivery, crisis intervention, debriefing and support, conflict resolution and case planning or an equivalent combination of education, training/experience
- Extensive working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation approaches and services, including individual service plan development and implementation and life skills training
- A solid background and knowledge of concurrent disorders with related work experience
- Two (2) years experience working with people with mental illness or those at risk of homelessness and a demonstrated commitment to promoting empowerment and individual/group advocacy
- Certificates in CPR, First Aid and Food Safe
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Satisfactory result from a TB skin test
- Naloxone training

- Ability to identify and work to increase program participant strengths
- Ability to respond to problematic behaviour using an understanding of the behaviour’s context and function
- Ability to work in a harm reduction environment which includes program participant’s suites, as well as familiarization with the principles of harm reduction
- Ability to support life skills
- Able to work independently with mínimal supervision, exercise initiative and good judgement
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize and prioritize
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in program participants
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with program participants, staff and management and collateral service providers
- Home management skills
- Ability to instruct
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Ability to resolve crisis situation
