Coordinator of Afterschool and Early Childhood Educator

Reporting to the Vice President of Child and Youth Services
The Afterschool Coordinator is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Afterschool Program, ensuring high-quality programming aligned with the YMCA’s A Place to Connect - School Age Curriculum. This position provides direct supervision, coaching, and support to program staff, volunteers, and students, fostering a positive and engaging environment that promotes program excellence and consistency.
Working in collaboration with the Coordinator of Preschool and Afterschool, this position also includes responsibilities as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). In this capacity, the ECE is accountable for the implementation of both the YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum, for children ages 3 to 5. The ECE is committed to nurturing the development of each child in spirit, mind, and body, while providing a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment. Responsibilities also include the supervision of volunteers and contributing to the smooth operation of daily program activities.
**Duties**
- Maintain compliance with all YMCA and government established policies.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders including YMCA staff and volunteers, community agencies and service providers and schools.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental stages (intellectual, emotional and physical) ensuring programs and services meets each of these needs.
- Ensure the security of the participants providing guidance on behavioral issues when needed.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and coach program staff ensuring high levels of service and performance in quality program delivery.
- Work within a budget and be fiscally responsible for all expenses and revenues.
- Complete daily administrative tasks/checklists related to provincial standards and curriculum.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Skills & Qualifications**
- Recognized Early Childhood Education Certificate / Diploma or Bachelor of Education Degree - Mandatory
- Current and acceptable Criminal Record Checks and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Clear Social Development Record Check
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Previous experience in the YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum and YMCA A Place to Connect (an asset)
- NB curriculum framework certificate or currently enrolled
- Demonstrated leadership skills developed through a minimum of 12 months’ experience supervising, coaching and leading a team
- Strong communication & organizational skills with an outgoing personality
- Bilingualism, French & English (an asset)
- Able to work flexible hours
- Must be able to provide 2 professional references
Pay: From $26.00 per hour
