As the paving operator, you are responsible for operating heavy machinery like an asphalt paver to spread and level hot mix asphalt on roads and streets, ensuring the pavement is laid to the specified grade and thickness according to project specifications, while maintaining safety and following all operational procedures; this includes daily equipment checks, preheating the paving screed, monitoring asphalt temperatures, and coordinating with dump trucks to maintain a consistent material flow. Key responsibilities of a paving operator:

- **Operating the asphalt paver**:Safely and efficiently operate the paver, including controlling the screed, hopper, and movement of the machine to distribute asphalt evenly.
- **Maintaining proper grade and thickness**:Use stakes, level gauges, and other tools to ensure the asphalt is laid at the correct depth and grade as per project specifications.
- **Coordinating with other crews**:Communicate effectively with dump truck operators to maintain a steady flow of asphalt into the hopper.
- **Performing daily inspections and maintenance**:Conduct pre-shift checks on the paver, identifying and reporting any mechanical issues.
- **Following safety protocols**:Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining awareness of surroundings.

Required skills and knowledge:

- **Heavy equipment operation skills**: Experience operating heavy machinery, specifically asphalt pavers.
- **Basic math skills**: Ability to understand and interpret grade and thickness specifications.
- **Mechanical aptitude**: Knowledge of basic machine maintenance procedures.
- **Attention to detail**: Ability to precisely control the paver to achieve the desired pavement profile.
- **Physical stamina**: Capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions and operating heavy machinery for extended periods.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 70 per week

Additional pay:

- Overtime pay

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- 12 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime
- Weekends as needed
