Centrally located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre (KRRC) serves some 200 children and adults with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities, mental health and social challenges. KRRC employs over 600 professional and support staff on a casual, part and full-time basis, making our organization one of the largest employers in the region. Staff are employed both within the main Centre and in smaller, Community Options homes. KRRC currently has openings for a **Casual Utility Worker, Environmental Services Department** in Waterville, N.S.
Working as part of the Environmental Services team and reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Utility Worker is responsible for the performance of housekeeping and laundry services. All tasks are performed safely and with attention to detail standards ensuing a safe, hygienic and attractive home for clients and workplace for staff. As casual staff, reliability is important and staff will be scheduled in advance for some shifts and on-call for other shifts.
**Position Responsibilities**:
- Communicates pertinent information, such as department activities, needs, and problems with the Environmental Service Supervisor to maintain the continuity of the housekeeping and laundry service.
- Must hold in confidence all matters pertaining to clients, staff and KRRC.
- Promotes and maintains good working relationships and communications within the facilities, with other program personnel and with clients and the general public.
- Contributes in activities related to the operation of the housekeeping and laundry service within the facility and satellite houses and areas by performing duties including, but not limited to:
**Laundry**
- Picking up and delivering soiled and clean linen;
- Processes laundry by loading, unloading and feeding machines;
- Sorts and folds laundry and makes same ready for delivery;
- Maintaining laundry rooms and staff washrooms by ensuring vents, lights, pipes and equipment are clean and free of lint;
- Maintaining quality control standards;
**Housekeeping**
- Wet and dry mopping, machine scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, burnishing all floors;
- Extracting carpets and matting, moving furniture, hanging drapes and curtains, as required;
- Maintaining and cleaning units, washrooms, utility rooms, offices, corridors and other designated areas;
- Collecting and disposing of garbage and cleaning garbage cans and garbage house as required;
- Ensuring interior and exterior windows are clean;
- Maintains and managing an economic use of supplies;
- Participates in a team approach to client care by presenting/attending meetings and in-services and other training programs.
- Ensures the continued integrity of the program by maintaining quality control standards, assisting in orientation of new employees, supporting fellow workers where possible and appropriate, and maintaining appropriate records, statistics, progress notes, inventories, and other related data as required.
- Complies with the Quality Management Program by keeping up-to-date on developments in the laundry and housekeeping services and by participating in the continual development of the program and its personnel.
- Promotes the mission of quality care by performing any other related tasks and duties that may be assigned or required, in order to maintain proficient workflows.
**Required Qualifications**:
- High School Diploma - Grade XII or the GED equivalent preferred, **not required.**
- Experience in labour, cleaning, laundry areas preferred, not required.
- Knowledge and experience in laundry and/or housekeeping is an asset
- Exhibit sound judgement and initiative
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable and respectful of people with disabilities
- Able to work safely and with attention to hygiene standards that meet Infection Control standards
- Ability to withstand the physical nature of the job including standing, bending, kneeling, and the lifting and moving of heavy and awkward objects
- Available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays, 8-hour shifts
- Required to provide a negative criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.
