$16.00/hr - $16.50/hr

**Primary Purpose**
The Retail Associate/Cashier is accountable for the effective operations and the delivery of service excellence within the retail unit. The role supports day-to-day operations through organizing staffing resources, merchandising product and providing service excellence to customers, staff, and vendors. This role will work closely with both the area manager and store key holder to solve unique problems and meet the needs of the membership.

**Key Accountabilities Store Operations**:

- Support all in-store processes and procedures to maximize efficiencies of store operations.
- Assist in merchandising the store with the goal of offering diverse product offerings while ensuring the store is visually appealing
- Help with the implementation of key business systems to improve store operations and service delivery
- Demonstrate service excellence within all interactions
- Be the first point of contact for any customer inquiry and lead service recovery experiences.
- Assists with inventory management, including cycle counts, receiving, loss prevention and waste management.
- Support the management team in ensuring core business processes within outlets are conducted accurately and efficiently including cash controls, merchandising and processing transactions.
- Support the manager in ensuring operations are in compliance with Health & Safety laws, and WUSA’s & University of Waterloo policies, procedures and visions.
- Ensure all equipment is always maintained and clean.

**3) Staff Management**:

- Ability to independently direct 2 - 4 staff per shift, with support from the management team.
- Provide shift correspondence and direction to staff to ensure outlets and shifts are operating to set standards.
- Supports staff training and development efforts
- Ensures staff provide outstanding customer service.

**4) Customer Service**:

- Commits to positive interactions with all internal and external customers and provides appropriate level of assistance regardless of situation or location.
- Ensures that all customer inquiries are handled in a professional, timely manner; and in cases when customers should be redirected to other staff, the incumbent will ensure that the redirection is complete, and that the customer is not left without service.
- Ensure service excellence is a key foundation within operations.

Employees are also responsible for the completion of all health and safety training, as assigned. Employees with staff supervision and/or management responsibilities will ensure that assigned staff abide by the above, and actively identify, assess and correct health and safety hazards, as required._

Required Qualifications
**Education**
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Post-Secondary an asset

**Experience**
- 1-3 years experience within a fast-paced retail environment
- Experience assisting with staff training and development would be beneficial

**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**
- Outstanding customer service skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must have excellent interpersonal, leadership and written & verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead a shift-based team
- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and build positive relationships.
- Ability to effectively work in a high-volume retail operation with proven good judgement and excellent problem-solving skills

**Nature and Scope**
- **Contacts**:Internally, communicates with all full-time staff to ensure operations are supported effectively through all WUSAs departments. Externally, working with vendors and suppliers to build positive relations. The incumbent has regular contact with campus groups and off-campus suppliers to maintain and develop positive customer relationships and beneficial vendor relations.
- **Physical and Sensory Demands**: This position requires exertion of physical sensory effort resulting in slight fatigue, strain or risk of injury lifting up to 50lbs would be required. Higher volume of customers in the first few weeks of class which result in higher number of distractions. The role also requires significant time spent on the floor, up to 4-5 hours of continuous standing.
- **Working Environment**:Typical retail work environment. There may be varying hours or schedules, including but not limited to extended weekend hours, weekday extended hours with varying volumes of work at different times of year.

**Salary**: $16.00-$16.50 per hour

- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
