**THE ROLE**
The Day Camp Companion - Special Needs plays an important role, providing quality leisure programs, services and facilities to our military members and their families.
We promote and encourage people with special needs to participate in a wide variety of activities offered throughout our communities. We believe that when members of the Canadian Armed Forces are able to take good care of themselves and their families, they can do better both at home and at work.
You will have an important portfolio, facilitating participation of people of varying abilities in the community activities of their choice. You will need to be a compassionate, empathetic and detail-oriented person who possess strong listening and oral communication skills to be successful in this role. Patience, a passion for helping people and being a team player are also essential attributes. You may be working with one participant or a group of children; all who need help and care to integrate and feel included.
This means that you will ensure the safety and integration of a child in a group with special needs, intervene in crisis or problematic situations, and communicate or meet with parents when a situation is considered problematic. You will stimulate and interact with children with special needs. You will also equip the leaders to allow them to intervene appropriately during minor incidents and develop intervention plans.
**QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED** Education, Certifications and Licenses**
College diploma or certificate in Youth/Family Studies, Social Services, Psychoeducation or a related field AND some years of experience in Youth programs or a related field
OR
High School diploma AND several years of experience in a related field
AND
- Diplôme d’aptitude aux fonctions d’animateur_ (DAFA)
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
**Experience**
In facilitation, teaching and group training of programs for youth with special needs
In children’s group facilitation
In intervening with youth who may be experiencing personal difficulties
**LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS**
French Essential
Reading: None
Writing: None
Oral: Functional

**START DATE**
May 6th to June 25th: Approximately 10 to 13 hours a week, with a gradual increase in June due to training
June 26th to August 18th: 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday between 6:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. (flexible schedule) for a total of 7.5 hours of work per day.
