**Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator**

- Aqueous Operational Services Inc._ provides wastewater operational support services to customers throughout the Southwestern Ontario Region. Our specialty is the operation of Wastewater Treatment systems in the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Public Sectors.
Position: Industrial Wastewater Operator
Location: London, Ontario
Duration: 12 month contract
Shift work is required, weekends included (afternoons, and nights)

**Plant Description**
This is a small mechanical/chemical treatment plant designed to reduce BOD, Oil & Grease, and TSS loadings in order to meet City of London sewer by-law discharge levels. The plant treats an average of 3200 m3/day.
The incoming waste stream is a combination of miscellaneous discharges from floor drains, chillers, scalder, and other processes from the main facility. The main facility is a chicken abattoir and processing plant.
Water from the equalization tank enters the treatment plant and first passes through a rotary strainer screen to remove large particulate matter from the stream.
The water then enters a large Dissolve Air Floatation clarifier (DAF), where mechanical and chemical processes separate the slaughter wastes into a floating sludge. The sludge is skimmed off the DAF, collected and removed from site for further processing. The DAF effluent is discharged to the city sewer.
**Operator Duties & Responsibilities**
- Perform laboratory testing on different treatment process stages. Close monitoring of these stages is critical to maintaining proper pH levels. Laboratory tests include; colourimetric COD/phosphorus, TSS, pH.
- Knowledge of operational parameters and treatment process, mechanics and hydraulics of the wastewater treatment system.
- Monitor gauges, meters and control valves related to process flow, chemical dosage, and effluent.
- Observe operating conditions, troubleshoot, make calculations, and corrective adjustments as needed.
- Start and stop pumps to control and adjust flow and treatment.
- Open and close valves and gates, done manually and by remote control via SCADA system.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, system pH probes, chemical feed pumps, influent and effluent samplers.
- Understand the City of London sewer by-law and other environmental legislation.
- Off load of sludge pit contents.
- Data entry, report writing and trending, maintain logs, make entries into such logs/records including; meter and gauge readings.
- Communication with co-workers, maintenance personnel, Environmental Coordinators, H&S representatives, and Ministry of Environment officials.
- Cleaning and good housekeeping practices.
