Trent University’s Facilities Management Department is responsible for planning, construction, renovating, repairing, and maintaining the University’s facilities and grounds, as well as managing utilities and campus sustainability. The University has approximately 1,400 acres of land in Peterborough alone, with over 1.5 million gross square feet of building space to maintain at our three locations: Peterborough’s main Symons Campus, downtown Peterborough Traill College, and our Durham GTA campus.

We are dedicated to providing our services using environmentally sustainable practices and strive to continually improve energy efficiency and waste diversion on campus.
The Facilities Assistant will work under the guidance and supervision of the Design Technologist to:
- **File Management**_
- Develop an electronic file management system (e.g. folder hierarchies, file naming)
- Develop written file storage guidelines and processes
- Organize electronic files using the new system
- Catalogue and rename existing files (e.g. building drawings, specifications, etc.)
- Arrange scanning of hardcopy files
- **Facilities Management**_
- Perform audits of Symons Campus teaching spaces
- Create & populate spreadsheet to track classroom furniture assets (chairs, desks)
- Work with Facilities Services to coordinate the movement of furniture
- Create & populate spreadsheet to track existing interior signage (various buildings)
- Make recommendations on signage locations/new signage
- Reach out to building occupants to obtain new signage data & update spreadsheet
- Assist in actioning signage Service Tickets & install signage inserts
- Support the administration of the Facilities Management Department’s asset management databases, including Service Ticket updates
- Assist with updates & audits to the Facilities Management space database
- Other duties as assigned
**Opportunity Requirements**:
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated time management strategies
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel)
- Experience in graphic design software (e.g. Corel Draw or similar) an asset
- Ability to read & understand floorplans an asset
- Experience in AutoCAD an asset
- Experience in data analysis, entry, and data management
- Access to a vehicle is an asset
**Work Environment & Hours**
The position will report to the Design Technologist.
Hours of employment are approximately 35 hours per week, from May 12th to Aug. 29th, 2025 (16 weeks), 8:30a.m.4:30p.m. Monday to Friday (statutory holidays are provided).
This is an _**in-person**_ position located on the Peterborough Campus with a dedicated working space in the Facilities Management offices in Blackburn Hall.
**This role requires you to have legal authorization to work for Trent University**_**OR**_ **any employer in Canada. Proof of valid work permit will be required.**
The hourly rate of pay will be $17.70 per hour.
