JOB SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS *
The Manager, Pharmacy Oncology has dual accountabilities to the Pharmacy and Regional Cancer programs. Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Program, and working closely with the Operations Director, Cancer Program, the Manager is an integral member of both Pharmacy and Cancer Care Leadership teams. The Manager has oversight of the clinical and operational services of the oncology pharmacy satellite which provides chemotherapy and other supportive functions to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program (SMRCP). The Manager, Pharmacy Oncology ensures that all hazardous sterile compounding is done in compliance with best practice, NAPRA, and the Ontario College of Pharmacists standards. The Manager ensures a focus on appropriate, cost effective, and evidence based care that is aligned with QBPs and NDFP funding. Working with the Operations Director, the Manager also maintains a balanced drug budget and report on monthly drug funding and expenditures via CCO’s Activity Level Reporting, program data reports and daily oversight.
The Manager, Pharmacy Oncology participates in both Pharmacy and Cancer Care Program visioning, planning, evaluation, budget development, resource allocation, utilization management, risk management, and the promotion of service excellence and quality improvement. The Manager is responsible for the ongoing development of the clinical teams, and serves as the link between staff, the physician leaders, and other clinical service areas. The Manager works on various projects with others internally and externally to RVH and promotes the growth and development of their respective clinical areas, ensuring excellence in patient care, which contributes to the achievement of the hospital’s mission. The Manager participates in community activities and committees related to the improvement of Program services, demonstrate effective leadership, planning and project management skills combined with exceptional problem solving and change management abilities.
The Manager, Pharmacy Oncology provides leadership in the oncology pharmacy specialty acting as resource providing education/ information to staff involved in the provision of oncology care to enhance the understanding of treatment and drug related problems in cancer patients through evidence based clinical practice while maintaining a current knowledge base in this rapidly evolving specialty service.

- Knowledge of USP 800, NAPRA, and Ontario College of Pharmacists Standards
- Practice continuing professional development as required by Regulated Health Professions Act
- Knowledge of disease states with focus on the specialty service of oncology (e.g. solid and liquid tumours)
- Knowledge of CCO, including QBP and NDFP funding models
- Knowledge of appropriate dosages, delivery techniques, formulations and routes of administration of antineoplastic drugs
- Knowledge of acute and long term antineoplastic drug toxicities
- Knowledge & utilization of credible electronic & print form medical information resources
- Utilization of effective teaching, presentation, documentation & communication practices
- Knowledge of third party reimbursement strategies
- Knowledge of safe handling, acquisition, distribution & disposal of cytotoxic drug products
- Knowledge of strategies to minimize risk of errors with chemotherapy drugs
- Knowledge of health promotion & disease prevention
- Knowledge of complementary medicines & alternative therapies
- Knowledge of aseptic technique & extemporaneous preparation of pharmaceuticals
- Knowledge of development, implementation & enforcement of policies/ procedures and certification programs
- Knowledge of multiculturalism and diversity
- Understanding and interpretation of research methodology and outcomes & critical appraisal of study design
**Education and Licensing**:
- Registered Pharmacist, in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A)
- Masters preparation in a health related field, an asset
**Experience**:
- Post-graduate Pharmacy Residency Program (ACPR), preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an acute care hospital pharmacy
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in pharmacy oncology
- Minimum of two (2) years recent progressive pharmacy leadership experience
