As Interim Manager, you will oversee policy and delivery of safe, quality patient care and efficient patient flow, budget preparation, resource management and staff leadership.ResponsibilitiesPatient Care ManagementAccountable to the standards of the Royal Victoria Health Care Plan (RHPA) and related professional colleges.Ensure patient safety, monitor safety indicators, investigate incidents and promote a culture of safety.Identify and manage patient care risks, develop risk management plans.Monitor quality of care through observation, documentation review and outcome evaluation, taking corrective action when necessary.Collaborate with Professional Practice to ensure care aligns with the unit’s vision and values.Facilitate robust unit‑based Quality/Practice Council for continuous improvement.Develop policies and procedures; ensure nursing care standards.Support a suitable patient care delivery system (team, primary, or total nursing).Monitor and evaluate activity indicators reflecting patient and staffing needs.Act as the primary liaison with physicians and other patient‑care services.Promote communication between patients, families and the inter‑professional team.Ensure patient teaching, including health promotion and illness prevention.Patient Flow ManagementAccountable for overall patient flow (input, throughput, output).Ensure timely acceptance of patients.Ensure adequate resources and staff; liaise with service departments to reduce barriers.Monitor daily bed utilization reports (e.g., 24‑hour report).Request and review flow data; take corrective action as needed.Support interdisciplinary communication (Bullet Rounds/Daily Communication).Liaise with other patient‑care area managers to facilitate movement within the health centre.Participate in bed meetings and contribute to hospital‑wide bed management plans.Coordinate with Health Services Liaison for 24‑hour flow planning.Identify and eliminate barriers to daily patient flow and discharge (e.g., CCAC).Human Resource ManagementCreate a safe workplace and ensure staff receive required training and equipment.Lead the patient‑care team, model desired attributes, and provide effective coaching.Maintain open respectful communication; foster team cohesion with Professional Practice.Coordinate unit orientation with Professional Practice and Human Resources.Set role expectations, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback.Develop individual objectives and goals aligned with unit and departmental objectives.Plan, coordinate and evaluate educational programs.Provide leadership development opportunities and promote a learning environment.Support quality of working life and professional accountability of staff.Provide accurate staffing complement based on acuity levels.Handle recruitment, selection, evaluation, dismissal and promotion of staff.Monitor illness, absenteeism and turnover; intervene appropriately.Support collective agreement implementation and conduct performance appraisals.Participate in grievance and disciplinary processes.Ensure compliance with Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Public Hospital Acts and other legislation.Ensure regulated health professionals meet registration deadlines and mandatory acts.Financial ManagementPrepare, submit and manage capital and operating budgets.Monitor and manage the unit budget;
