Manager - Professional Practice & Nursing Residency Program

**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Operations Director of Professional Practice, IPAC & Allied Health Services, the Manager Professional Practice & Nursing Residency Program will be responsible for the coordination of various programs and initiatives within the Professional Practice department with a focus on building nursing skills and talents as a part of the Health Human Resource ministry initiatives. The manager will demonstrate role modeling, teamwork, communication, autonomous clinical practice and a drive towards continuous improvement. The individual will work alongside the interprofessional team to champion the identification of quality initiatives aimed at optimizing the patient experience, improving support for staff in achieving quality patient outcomes.

In collaboration with the leaders within Professional Practice, the Manager Professional Practice & Nursing Residency Program will provide effective leadership for the staff within the department as well as support the individual needs of each program throughout the organization. Working with the interprofessional team the individual will be responsible for assisting with daily staff development, communicating change ideas and sustaining quality initiatives to meet the program goals and objectives.

This position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and sustain best practices to improve quality of care and care models.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required, Masters in a health related study preferred
- Specialty Certification with Canadian Nurses Association preferred
- Formal education in leadership and/or management required
- Formal mentorship training/education strongly recommended

**Experience**:

- 3 - 5 years current or recent Nursing experience required
- 1 - 2 years leadership experience required
- Previous project management and/or change management experience and participation in process improvement initiatives required
- Experience working with ministry initiatives an asses (i.e. Nurse Graduate Guarantee, Critical Care Nurse Funding, Clinical Extern Program, Internationally Educated Nurses)

**Competencies**:

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Strong interpersonal skills required
- Project Management skills including facilitation skills preferred
- Leadership ability

**Responsibilities**:
Leadership:

- Act as a mentor or coach for staff and provide them with appropriate opportunities for developing leadership skills, practice decision making and problem solving skills
- In collaboration with the Managers, assist with coordinating scheduling of direct reports to ensure a focus of growth and skill development is prioritized
- Creates an environment with open communication and facilitates open communication and staff sharing in decision making and resolution of conflicts maintaining collegiality among all team members
- Develop and implement a sustainable mentorship program for staff to participate in to strengthen focus on mentoring and developing new practitioners within the organization
- Support and strengthen the ongoing commitment to sustaining the organizational status as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization through the Registered Nurses Association of Canada.
- Continue to support and strengthen the MAID navigation team overseeing the ongoing education and development needs.
- Continue to support and strengthen relationships with academic partners in creating an exceptional environment for student learning.

Project Planning:

- Plan and oversee various projects acting as the coordinator, facilitator and/or champion to ensure the successful execution of specific program plans
- Identify quality improvement initiatives that will achieve program or corporate strategic goals
