Burnaby, Canada Steamworks Brewing Company Full time

Steamworks Brewing Company is looking for someone to assist the quality program at our Burnaby Brewery. The Quality Assistant will be responsible for supporting the quality of our beverages and safety standards within the brewery. They will play an active role in fermentation monitoring, equipment maintenance, and in the sensory and microbiology programs. The position is for a 12-8 pm shift (Mon-Fri) and weekend shifts may be required. The Quality Assistant will report to the Quality Control Manager.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Perform daily standardized testing on fermenting and finished product (pH, density, ABV, colour, IBUs, TTA, yeast cell counts and viability)
- Perform daily analysis of packaged products, including seam checks, TPO measurements, and organization of archived samples
- Perform forced diacetyl tests or VDKs
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of a sensory program
- Prepare microbiological media and sterilize equipment
- Maintain all quality control records in Excel and/or Orchestrated Beer
- Perform regular cleaning and calibration of lab equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment
- Maintain lab inventory and ordering as needed
- Assist in developing and improving existing standards and quality targets and proactively develop solutions to issues affecting product quality and consistency
- Participate in discussions and seek out improvements to Steamworks safety standards.
- Uphold and maintain health and safety standards of the brewery
- Assist in other areas as needed: brewing, cellaring, packaging, and other duties as directed by the Director of Brewing and Blending Operations

**Education and Experience Required**
- Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Food Science or 1-2 years’ experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of the brewing process and/or food or beverage production principles is an asset
- Experience controlling brewing processes and assessing beer quality preferred

**Other Required Skills**
- Driven, self-motivated, and task-orientated with strong attention-to-detail
- Ability to make judgement calls independently when needed
- Able to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, face shields, and safety boots
- Strong logistics, record keeping, and time management skills
- Outstanding team player with excellent work ethic
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Passion for craft beer
- Desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Be able to understand, create, and follow instructions

**Salary**: $42,000.00-$52,000.00 per year
