School District No. 37 is seeking a highly motivated, accomplished leader for the position of District Principal Human Resources Teaching Staff. Reporting to the Director of Employee Services, the position is responsible for all aspects of the District's Teaching Staff. The District Principal collaborates and consults with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and acts as a trusted advisor to the Employee Services group and Senior Leadership regarding the full range of Human Resource activities

**Summary of Position**

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the District Principal is responsible for all aspects of human resources management related to the teaching staff of the District.

**Expectations of the position include**:

- Projecting a clear sense of direction consistent with the district vision
- Working with staff to build knowledge and expertise related to their assigned positions
- Keeping informed about current research, trends and practices in human resources and the education sector
- Acting as a symbol of the district's culture through articulating and modeling goals and behaviours which signal to others what is of importance and value
- Demonstrating superior human relations and communication skills
- Developing positive and supportive relationships within an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Fostering supportive attitudes among all stakeholders, staff, unions, associations and community members
- Leadership and supervision of staff including all aspects of recruitment, training, evaluation, professional development and performance management
- Demonstrated understanding of curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Administration of a School
- Masters degree in an area such as Leadership, Curriculum or Learning
- Minimum of five years exemplary teaching experience
- Experience and ability in establishing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with staff at all levels, and internal and external stakeholders to the district.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills include writing formal reports, preparing

business cases, and making presentations.
**Duties and Responsibilities include**:
**Human Resources Administration**:

- Reviews, recommends and implements improvements to human resource policies, procedures and practices.
- Prepare reports and complete project work on human resources and labour relations matters.
- Assist the Director with the management of the District's claims management, attendance management and teacher rehabilitation programs in conjunction with departmental personnel
- Provide support for administrators regarding effective teacher assessment and evaluation processes in place in schools.
- Consult and liaise with teachers, the teachers' association, managers and external support

agencies as necessary.
**Recruitment and Selection**:

- Oversee the district layoff and recall procedures.
- Facilitate and develop the recruitment and selection procedures for new teaching staff.
- Oversee the management of the post and fill procedures.
- Direct and lead the orientation process for new teaching staff.
- Provide support to principals and managers on all aspects of the hiring process.

**Employee/Labour Relations**:

- Interpret and administer collective agreement and legislative requirements and respond to inquiries from management, the teachers' association and employees.
- Represent the Board on committees as determined by the collective agreement and on other committees as is required.
- Calculate remedy FTE for schools as required
- Participate in consultative meetings with the teachers' association.
- Participate in preparation for and conduct of the collective bargaining process.
- Participate in all grievance processes.
- Manage legal processes including liaison with BCPSEA and legal counsel.
