The District Principal, Indigenous Learning (“District Principal”) provides system-wide leadership in advancing Indigenous Education in the Delta School District. They are responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a range of strategies, programs and agreements that support student success, positive cultural identity, and the well-being of indigenous students. The goal is to address the achievement gap for Indigenous learners, promote Indigenous culture, pride, language and traditions, and inspire staff to create inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive learning environments for Indigenous students. Working in close partnership with the Indigenous Education Council (in particular Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band), the District Principal collaborates with Indigenous families and students, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, Delta schools, district leadership, federal and provincial agencies, local unions, and Delta Learning Services staff. The District Principal, Indigenous Education reports to the Director of Learning Services.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Providing strategic leadership for Indigenous Education across the Delta School District.
- Providing clear vision, oversight and leadership to the Indigenous Education Department.
- Collaborating with staff and schools to ensures the success of all Indigenous students.
- Supporting professional learning on Indigenous curriculum, culture, knowledge, and history for all staff and students.
- Developing a close working relationship with the local First Nations (Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band).
- Collaborating with local language speakers on the development and inclusion of local First Nations language programs.
- Working with the Indigenous Education Council in the role of secretariat; fulfilling all Ministry mandates regarding this relationship.
- Monitoring and reporting on the impact of Indigenous Education initiatives.
- Partnering with the Indigenous Education Council to establish, administer and report on the use of Ministry targeted funding.
- Collecting, managing, and reporting local and Ministry of Education Indigenous Student data.
- Supporting implementation of the Delta School District Justice and Equity Action Plan, the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Liaising with Ministry of Education Departments appropriate to responsibilities.
- Overseeing the Indigenous Services Canada Nominal Roll, supporting the development of Local Education Agreements (LEA) and Protocol Agreements and overseeing the implementation of the BC Tripartite Education Agreement.
- Participating with Budget Officers in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Indigenous Ancestry (First Nation, Metis or Inuit) strongly preferred.
- Master's degree in Education and a Teaching Certificate of Qualifications in BC in good standing; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience leading and coaching teams in the development and implementation of a range of programs and projects.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, communities, history, protocols, culture, successes and contemporary issues.
- A strong commitment to Indigenous student success.
- Experience working respectfully and collaboratively with First Nations rights holders, Inuit, Metis and Urban indigenous communities.
- Collaborative leadership and ability to build trust-based relationships.
- Effective communication, advocacy, facilitation, conflict-resolution and relationship-building skills.
- Competence in managing large budgets.
- Ability to collect and analyze data to drive improved outcomes.
