Position Overview
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide a range of supportive interventions for students who exhibit self-regulation, social, emotional, physical, and/or medical needs. Your leadership and ability to interact with your peers is supported by cultural and ability sensitivity, and related experience supporting people with disabilities.
In keeping with the goals of our corporate strategic plan and department business strategy, the Specialized Program Instructor will be responsible for providing program support to participants in the City’s Summer Camp programs.
Specialized Instructors report to the Assistant Programmer or the Recreation Coordinator and work at various locations throughout Burlington. Camps run from July 2nd to August 30th, hours to support with general camp hiring in April, and training hours in May and June. Hours worked are anywhere from 0-40 hours per week with a maximum of 44. Please note that positions and schedules may vary based on program registrations and regulations around the current health situation.
Specialized Instructors will be expected to be available for all training sessions starting at the end of May and throughout the month of June prior to the start of the summer camp programs in July.
Responsibilities- Conflict resolution and supporting participants with behavioural needs- Assisting with personal care requirements of participants in program which may include supporting with physical demands of hygiene, toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, and transferring children and equipment.- Engaging with staff on conflict resolution practices and coaching through behaviour management principles- Providing feedback on the programs- Providing outstanding customer service- Adhering to pre-established risk management practices- Coaching and mentorship of Program Leaders in relation to behaviour management strategies, and program modifications.
Requirements
The incumbent will also be responsible for presenting the following qualifications:
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development- Standard First Aid with CPR-C- Position will require occasional travel around Burlington. Must be able to provide own transportation.- Behaviour Management Systems Training and Lifts and Transfers training will be provided.
Based on duration of contract, time off requests must be submitted by June 3rd, however approval will depend on program needs and available coverage.
