Job Description AltaGas - Operator, Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant (EEEP) Position Summary AltaGas is seeking an Operator for our Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant The Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility. This includes performing regular plant rounds, making necessary adjustments to equipment, and maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness. The role also involves mentoring new hires, participating in safety assessments, and continuously improving skills and knowledge. This position requires a rotating shift schedule of 4 days on, 5 days off, 5 days on, 4 days off, 5 days on, 5 days off, 2 days on, 5 days off. Both day and night shift rotations are required to support 24/7 operations. What You'll Do: - Responsible for the overall safe and efficient operations of the facility.- Perform plant rounds and readings to ensure equipment operates within process parameters. A minimum of 4 rounds per shift and one set of readings per shift.- Perform required adjustments in the field to the process equipment to ensure equipment is operating within process parameters and safe operating limits.- Maintain an excellent understanding of process flows, location, and plant equipment.- Isolate and prepare equipment for maintenance following AltaGas Lock Out Procedures.- Ensure all weekend, monthly, and housekeeping duties are completed to maintain facility integrity and cleanliness; Complete assigned tasks, Work Orders, Safety Checklists, etc.- Identify, report, and communicate plant equipment and safety deviations through MAXIMO, Hazard IDs, and Operations Log.- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to new hires and Junior Operators to allow increased knowledge and advancement as outlined in our Operations Training Program.- Participate in Critical Job Checklists, Job Hazard Assessments, and Work Permits to ensure non-routine or high-risk work is completed as per procedures; ensure contractor work is performed per AltaGas, HSE, and site-specific policies.- Understand and carry out Emergency Response, Operations, Lockout, and Safety Bypass Procedures.- Participate in projects to upscale Operations Procedures, Lockout Procedures, and Job Hazard Assessments.- Assist and participate in HSE meetings, inspections, and other HSE requirements. Reports any HSE events and unsafe work conditions.- Understands and properly carries out Emergency Response Procedures and participates in ERP drills. What You Bring: - 3+ years of process plant operations experience, preferably in a gas plant with liquids extraction or NGL fractionation facility.- Valid ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate preferred.- DCS experience or Control Panel experience is considered an asset.- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and Plant P&IDs.- Excellent understanding of environmental impacts, health, safety, and security risks in a plant environment.- H2S Alive, First Aid, CPR, and Confined Space Entry certifications are preferred.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.- Ability to identify and respond quickly to process upsets while maintaining best practices, facility safety, and minimizing plant downtime.- Ability to provide mentorship to and assist junior operators. Where You'll Work: The Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant ("EEEP") is located within the city limits in south Edmonton, Alberta. It began processing natural gas streams in 1978. AltaGas became the plant operator in 2004 and is now the plant’s sole owner. EEEP is a gas extraction straddle plant with a gross production capacity of 23,000 Bbls/d of specification ethane and 7,500 Bbls/d of natural gas liquids (NGLs). It is connected to several pipeline systems, which provide the opportunity for valuable liquids such as ethane, propane, and butane to be processed for commercial and industrial use.
