**Job Title**:Brighter Futures Program Worker
**Salary**: $44,995.29 - $53,252.58 - $64,278.99
**Contract**: Fulltime, Permanent
**Hours**: 4-day work week, Mon - Thurs (36 hrs)
**Location**: Ladysmith, BC
Reporting to the Social Development Manager, Brighter Futures Worker plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of our community. In this position, you will promote mental health through community-based programs, organize engaging activities for boys and girls groups (including Parent Break and Mom and Tots), and facilitate culturally sensitive parenting workshops and support groups. You’ll also contribute to child development by ensuring nurturing environments, support healthy pregnancies through prenatal education, and prevent injuries with safety workshops. **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Mental Health Support**
- Promote the development of healthy communities through community-based Mental Health programs, services and/or activities in collaboration with the Mental Health and Wellness Clinicians (MHWCs).
- Support for Boys and Girls Group - Organize, arrange, prepare and execute mental health programs such as Parent Break and Mom and Tots group including client calls, pick-up and drop-off, arrange and/or prepare meals and ensure appropriate facilitators are hired
- Distribute information and Provide awareness activities on a variety of topics such as depression, family violence and stress management
- Provide advice regarding wellness activities such as a traditional crafts and recreational activities in order to promote the health of the community
**Child Development**
- Ensure that children receive the nurturing they need to reach their potential
- Facilitate the Mom and Tots group
- Activities may include but are not limited to - School-based breakfasts, math learning program, parent-child crafts program, after-school programs, school-based bullying sessions, cultural heritage activities, or toy lending libraries.
**Parenting**
- Promote culturally-sensitive parenting skills
- Plan and implement parenting workshops, parent training programs in collaboration with MHWCs, Daycare and school, and youth workers
- Facilitate the Parent break group
- Run the Nobody's Perfect parenting program
- Facilitate a support group for parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
**Healthy Babies**
- Improve the health and well-being of mothers and babies
- Assist Community Health with the Pre/Postnatal program and education (including breastfeeding, importance of healthy eating, regular medical examination and the avoidance of drugs, alcohol and tobacco during pregnancy.
- Prevent injuries by planning and implementing activities such as first aid training; water, fire and bicycle safety workshops; awareness campaigns and promotion of the use of seat belts and car seats
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES**
- A 2-year diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Health, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Training or certification in Mental Health First Aid or Trauma-Informed Care is an asset.
**EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE**
- A diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Health, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field is required.
- Training or certification in Mental Health First Aid or Trauma-Informed Care is an asset.
- Experience in Child Development or Early Childhood Programs is required.
- Must be living a lifestyle free of addictions for a minimum of three years
- Fluency or comprehension of the Hulqui'minum language would be an asset
- Cultural understanding of Stz’uminus First Nation would be an asset
- Must have demonstrated ability to work with others
- Excellent computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook
