**AHS Program Coordinator Job Description**
**Qualifications**
- A validated ECE Diploma and certificate to practice in British Columbia and or relevant education and experience working with young children and families
- A valid childcare First Aid certificate
- A clear criminal record check
- Understanding of the _Community Care Facilities Act _and Licensing regulations
- At least 5 years experience working with families
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, language, and traditions
- Demonstrated respect for all Aboriginal cultures
- Management or supervisory experience with a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable to the position
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team situation
- Leadership skills
- Personal suitability for working with young children
- Demonstrated ability in problem solving and conflict resolution
- Experience writing proposals to funding organizations and reporting
- Knowledge of community resources

Purposes
- Ensure that the new Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) childcare program provides a nurturing, culturally sensitive care, and education program for young children, consistent with the philosophy and guidelines stated in our policy and procedures manual and the BC Early Learning Framework.
- Ensure that the AHS childcare program provides a family-friendly atmosphere.
- Lead and coordinate program staff, ensuring all legal and contractual requirements are met.
- Ensure that the program staff follow best practices and understand the AHSABC principles and guidelines and BC Early Learning Framework.
Job Duties Responsibility: Liaison and coordination with the Early Years Manager (FRAFCA).
**Accountabilities**
- Provide reports on activities as required or requested by Early Years manager/FRAFCA.
- Keep the Early Years Manager/FRAFCA informed about important developments at the preschool.
- Attend meetings at the FRAFCA.
- Work in coordination with the Early Years manager and Finance Department at the FRAFCA for accurate financial reporting.
- **Responsibility: Accurate and responsible financial management of the childcare program.**
**Accountabilities**
- Oversee daily program expenditures, ensuring that funds are spent within budget guidelines.
- Prepare financial reports for the FRAFCA and funders as required.
- Review financial reports from the FRAFCA and discuss any irregularities with Early Years manager.
- Ensure all revenues/expenses are processed to ensure we follow annual budget and monthly cash flow forecasts and recommend reallocation of funds where needed.
- **Responsibility: Manage the day-to-day operations of the childcare program.**
**Accountabilities**
- Work closely with and support the Senior Educator in all aspects of programming.
- Work closely with the Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) Consultant to coordinate services by ASCD staff in the program, and to access referrals for children.
- Ensure that the program is evaluated as required by funders and the FRAFCA.
- Problem solves in daily programming as required.
- Ensure that adequate security is maintained in the facility.
- Participate in and coordinate special activities.
- Maintain a filing system for all childcare program records.
- Ensure that the childcare’s policy and procedures are respected and implemented.
- Chair monthly staff meetings.
- **Responsibility: Lead and manage staff.**
**Accountabilities**
- Participate in hiring staff for the childcare program.
- Carry out probationary and annual performance review program staff members in collaboration with the Senior Educator and FRAFCA’s HR manager.
- Support the Senior Educator in her staff supervision role, with problem solving and conflict resolution as necessary.
- When the Senior Educator is not available, provide guidance and supervision to program staff.
- Maintain administrative records for staff and volunteers and submit them to the Host Agency as required.
- Ensure that all personnel policy and procedures of FRAFCA are respected and implemented.
- **Responsibility: Provide advocacy, liaison, and referral services to parents participating at the AHS childcare program.**
**Accountabilities**
- Network with other community resources.
- Help establish information sharing with other community services.
- Make parents aware of community services and how to access them.
- Provide or make referrals for appropriate services as required.
- **Responsibility: Facilitate family involvement.**
