**Job Description**:
The Science Department is looking to hire an instructor to teach one section of Scientific Literacy (SCIE 1114) in the Spring semester of 2025 based on student demand and course availability.

The Science Department is looking to hire an instructor to teach one section of Scientific Literacy (SCIE 1114) in the Spring semester of 2025 based on student demand and course availability.

The semester starts beginning of January and finishes end of April and the class runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12.30 to 14.20.

This course explores what science is and how it is done. It helps students to develop critical thinking skills by showing them how to assess the validity and reliability of scientific studies, to analyze and construct scientific arguments, and to defend their arguments with reasoned evidence. It also demonstrates how science both influences, and is influenced by, culture and society and teaches students what it means to conduct themselves with professionalism in the scientific community.

Required Qualifications:
1. A minimum of an M.Sc. in one of the natural sciences (astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, or physics); Ph.D. preferred.
2. Experience teaching at a post-secondary institution, preferred.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to grade student essays.
4. Experience facilitating small group discussion, preferred.
5. Demonstrated interest and proficiency in one or more of the history, philosophy, methods, and ethics of science, preferred.

Salary Range:
$45.88 - $142.49

Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
