Reporting to the Manager, Professional Practitioners, and working under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist, the Communicative Disorders Assistant provides treatment to patients with neurogenic and language disorders in the rehabilitation and acute medicine settings. The individual will work with patient and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team to follow treatment goals to actively help rehabilitate patients to achieve their maximum functional level.

Accountabilites:

- Provides client and family-centred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
- Provides speech-language pathology designated programs to individual clients or groups of clients within the rehabilitation and acute medical programs
- Develops materials for use with individual clients
- Bases practice on direction provided by the speech-language pathologist and in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Respects the patient/family rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
- Participates in on-the-job training and continuing education/professional development where appropriate
- Collects relevant data as directed by the speech-language pathologist
- Maintains clean and safe equipment and materials and assists in reviewing inventory
- Attends and participates in staff meetings
- Communicates in a timely and effective manner with team members and clients
- Provides client/caregiver training, follow-up and equipment preparation under the supervision of the primary clinician
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Graduate of a communicative disorders assistant program
- Experienced with different types of treatment materials
- Self-directed learner who demonstrates initiative
- Ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
- Knowledge of speech, language and communication strategies for intervention
- Ability to modify delivery of program activities based on clients interest and abilities
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration
