**Bookstore & Retail Manager**

**Position Purpose and** **Summary**

The Bookstore Manager plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises all day-to-day operations of the campus store. They are responsible for providing and role modeling retail sales and customer service best practices. The Manager is also responsible for supervising and participating in the selection, stocking, purchasing and selling of merchandise and textbooks. The Manager will display a commitment to supporting the overall university and mission of the bookstore as well as demonstrate the University’s values.

**Key Areas of Accountability**

**Bookstore Operations**
- Plan, organize and coordinate all aspects of bookstore operations including purchasing of supplies and books, special orders, merchandising, receiving and shipping, hiring, training and supervision of staff, inventory control and financial management.
- Plan, develop and implement strategies for generating store revenues.
- Develop and manage annual sales budget and performs periodic cost and sales analysis and prepare daily administrative and operational reports as required
- Serve customers, students and staff/faculty, responding quickly to their needs and taking appropriate action.
- Communicate effectively with university faculty, staff, students and campus affiliates
- Assure maintenance of adequate inventory levels of the bookstore, estimate sales levels, determine and order needed supplies to maintain inventory levels.
- Prepare purchase orders as needed for inventory management.
- Assist with pre-inventory preparation and conducting annual bookstore inventory.
- Develop the stores annual marketing plan which includes providing leadership on sales promotion, establishing sales targets, reviewing pricing strategies, maintaining attractive merchandise displays and monitoring sales results.
- Supervise sales floor and cashiering functions and provide excellent customer service.
- Purchases the necessary textbooks for university courses, makes pricing decisions, and keeps track of inventory and sales.
- Communicate and liaise regularly with faculty and staff concerning textbooks deadlines and orders.
- Develop effective textbook buyback programs and return policies.
- Supervise the preparation and return of overstock and defective books.
- Develop, update and implement policy and procedural changes as necessary.

**Campus Mail Services**
- Plan and manage services and activities of university mail facility.
- Coordinate and oversee operations.
- Provide financial management support.

**Standards & Requirements**

**Education**: Bachelor’s Degree in a business related discipline or equivalent combination of education or experience

**Experience**:3-5 years of experience in retail, especially in the bookstore and/or apparel industry preferred.
