**Overview**

As the “Voice of Indigenous Business in Manitoba”, The Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (ICC) represents businesses and organizations that are Indigenously owned and managed that provide support or services to our community; play a significant and relevant role in the economic development of this Province.

The ICC is a unique organization, with a unique, and growing membership. The businesses and organizations that belong to the ICC are Indigenously owned businesses, companies that work within the Indigenous community, or organizations that provide support or services to our community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (ICC) the General Manager is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**

The General Manager is responsible for:
**Leadership**
- Conducting all activities in a manner consistent with ICC’s values (as noted in the Bylaws)
- Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the ICC
- Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the ICC
- Foster effective teamwork between the Board and General Manager and between the General Manager and staff
- Lead and motivate volunteers to support ICC to achieve ICC’s Vision and Mission
- Act as a spokesperson for the ICC to members, potential members, the public and government officials - this role is complementary to the Chair of the ICC
- Represent the ICC at community activities and events to enhance the profile of the ICC
- Actively promote and market the chamber so as to gain and maintain membership
- Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board

**Operational planning and management**
- Develop annual operational plans to achieve the strategic objectives
- Develop, with the Finance Committee, the plan for acquiring the financial, human and material resources to achieve the operational and strategic plans
- Ensure the ICC is always in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the ICC
- Draft ‘Standard Operating Procedures/Internal Policies’ for the approval of the Executive Committee and prepare procedures to implement the policies; review existing policies and recommend changes as appropriate
- Ensure that personnel, members, sponsors, volunteer, and Board files and discussions are securely stored, and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
- Provide support to the Board of Directors by preparing monthly reports, meeting agendas, and supporting materials, and distributing in advance of meetings

**Human resource management**
- Oversee the development and implementation of the human resource policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions and conducting performance reviews at least annually for all staff
- Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all legislation and regulations

**Financial planning and management**
- Work with staff and the Board of Directors (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget for approval prior to each fiscal year and review monthly, updating as appropriate
- Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
- Administer funds of the ICC in accordance with the approved budget and policies
- Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive, monthly reports on revenues and expenditures
- Research and pursue grant and other non-repayable sources of revenues

**Community relations/advocacy**
- Communicate effectively with members to keep them informed on the direction and activities being taken by the ICC and to cause them to see value in renewing their membership
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, members, politicians, funders and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the ICC

**Qualifications**
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations, especially related to achieving effective volunteer results
- Knowledge of the opportunities and challenges faced by Indigenous entrepreneurs
- Ability to communicate effectively in all forms, including social media
- Ability to work with other leaders and organizations in a coordinated and effective way
- Appropriate educational levels, such as degrees or equivalent in experience
- Experience in working with small, medium and large businesses, especially Indigenous owned businesses
- Understanding of Indigenous traditions, culture, language, and protocols
- Experience working with Indigenous organizations, communities and peoples
