The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) launched a digital strategy and five-year roadmap in April 2020. **Key Responsibilities**:

- As assigned, assist in the response to external and internal reports of electrical product incidents or accidents submitted to ESA through its product safety database or via other communications means.
- Open and conduct product incident investigations and act as liaison with reporting party and/or organization who submits product safety report. Conduct risk assessments in accordance with product safety operational procedures and produce warning letters and Product Incident Reports. Respond to voluntary external reports of electrical product incident or accident submitted to ESA through its product safety database. Liaise with reporting party and/or organization who submit product safety reports to ensure that issues are clearly communicated and understood.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on product safety incidents and investigations. Provide support to inspectors who are investigating serious electrical incidents. Monitor the completion of investigations and review product reports. nd regulations, product standards, safety records and technical literature, as required.
- Under direction of supervisor or other senior staff attend meetings at regional offices, inspection offices, testing labs and other external sites, as assigned, to witness testing, gather additional information and provide reports to product safety staff in order to assist in product safety investigations.
- Respond to product safety questions from non-technical individuals posted on the ESA website’s FAQ. Maintain a database of these questions and answers.
- Respond to external and internal inquiries with direction from supervisor or senior technical staff and provide verbal or written advice on interpreting electrical safety standards as it pertains to product safety requirements and the product safety regulation and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required.

**Education**:

- Requires knowledge of electrical engineering theory to appreciate the factors involved in design, layout, electrical engineering requirements and specifications, to understand the problems dealing with the selection, installation and manufacture of electrical components and assemblies in relation to requirements and interpretations of the product safety standards governed by the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
- Grade 12 education in a secondary school, plus three years of further concentrated study in electrical engineering technology at a community college, or a similar level of education sufficient to obtain a diploma as a Certified Engineering Technologist.
- An engineering degree is an asset.

**Experience**:

- Some experience working in electrical product design and familiarity with the approval process acquired at a manufacturing design or production facility or through a certification organization is a definite asset.
- Requires experience with electrical product approvals work to be knowledgeable of the regulations and standards applicable to electrical products and equipment to provide technical and procedural guidance to inspection staff.
- A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
