**Job Summary**
Dalhousie Financial Services strives to provide the highest quality financial services and information to ensure the effective stewardship of University assets to the benefit of students and scholarly activities. Financial Services is a core service unit of the University, providing services in areas of financial accounting, budgeting, procurement and risk management, cash management, financial systems and policies, and the University's endowment, pension and short term investment programs. Reporting to the Associate Director Finance Operations, the Financial Analyst, Tax & Payments, is a key resource person in taxation matters and payment card acceptance for campus, including compliance with merchant security standards.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Act as the key contact for payment card acceptance on campus, coordinating with Faculties and Departments to ensure efficient and secure processes while complying with Payment Card Industry (PCI) Standards. Provide regular training and education sessions for outlets accepting cardholder payments.
- Maintain all processes and controls related to Commodity taxation, including advising campus on HST matters and preparation of monthly rebate submissions. Ensure the University is claiming appropriate input tax credits and rebates, and respond to Canada Revenue Agency inquiries and audits.
- Respond to campus queries on matters involving taxation issues, developing a solid understanding of campus processes and researching and summarizing tax guidance to determine appropriate treatment.
- Coordinate information and complete regulatory filings - Charity return, T4A slips, IRS tax return, municipal taxes, non-resident withholdings.
- Maintain an understanding of the internal controls impacting the University's financials, identify areas of weakness, and recommending options to mitigate.
- Contribute to ongoing process improvement and automation efforts within the Financial Services to achieve best practices for efficiency and effectiveness.

**Note**
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business, with an Accounting major or similar area of study, plus five years of progressively responsible post-degree financial accounting experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience with Canadian taxation matters and the ability to interpret CRA guidance.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills, and a high degree of solid judgment. The ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
- A self-starter with the drive to understand the big picture and the creativity and agility to work within an environment of constant change.
- Advanced level MS Office Suite capabilities, especially MS Excel (pivot tables, graphs, charts, macros).
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex and confidential matters in a high-volume, deadline driven environment with accuracy, diplomacy, and reliability.

**Assets**
- Completion of, or actively pursuing the Canadian CPA designation.
- Prior exposure to card payment processing systems and PCI compliance programs.
