French Translator

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is seeking one **French Translator on an indeterminate,** full-time** contract **to work on all French translation requirements for the Foundation and contribute to a new initiative, the **Canada Asia Sustainability Tracker (CAST)**. CAST is an online, interactive platform for mapping and visualizing developments in the Asia Pacific with respect to specific nodes of Canadian engagement with the region. Focused principally on sustainability and ESG developments, CAST will provide sub-national level data and information on Asian affairs, Asia’s two-way engagement with Canada, and related emerging trends.

**The successful applicant will have the following qualifications**:

- University degree in Translation Studies or a related discipline (university degree/college diploma)
- Excellent editing, writing, and communications skills with an attention to detail
- Must have 2-4 years of translation experience or proven ability to edit English documents and translate them into French
- A certification of/or affiliation with a professional translation association (CTTIC, ATA, ITI, etc.) would be an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and computerized translation tools, including Logiterm
- Must be experienced in using CAT tools
- Experience working with graphic design software and various file formats is a definite asset
- Expert-level ability to communicate effectively, excellent verbal and written communication with concern for quality
- Effective data and records management
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize responsibilities; ability to plan, organize, and co-ordinate
- Versatile, autonomous, resourceful, and reliable
- Be flexible and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of international relations and Asian affairs is considered an asset

**Major Responsibilities**

Service Delivery
- Translate documents from English to French, aligned with APF Canada branding policy
- Proofread documents to ensure language accuracy; Proofread translations done by other external translators to ensure quality control
- Revise the quality of translated material by external resources and ensure documents meet established guidelines
- Transcribe French and English audio and video recorded material into French and perform any other related language services
- Convert concepts in the source language to equivalent concepts in the target language
- Conduct terminological research to establish consistent terminology and standardization of databases to be used in translations
- Creating work plans for projects and ensuring delivery of translations on time, on budget and according to APF Canada brand specifications

Administration & Reporting
- Ensure satisfaction/quality, reporting issues, concerns, etc. - escalate issues to the Director of Communications, as required
- Prepare weekly reports, as required
- Develop and maintain accurate files for Communications Department
- Practical knowledge of Canadian Press style and usage
- Perform related duties, including proofreading and editing - sometimes on a desktop publishing system and at all stages of the production - publications and documents intended for external or wide internal distribution
- Assisting with other duties as assigned in support of APF Canada

La Fondation Asie Pacifique du Canada (FAP Canada) est à **la recherche d'un(e) traducteur(trice) français(e) pour un contrat à temps plein et à durée indéterminée** afin de répondre à tous les besoins de traduction en français de la Fondation et de contribuer à une nouvelle initiative**, le Suivi de la durabilité Canada-Asie (CASD)**. CASD est une plateforme en ligne et interactive servant à cartographier et à visualiser les développements en Asie Pacifique particulièrement marqués par une implication canadienne. Axé principalement sur la durabilité et les enjeux liés aux facteurs environnementaux, sociaux et de gouvernance (ESG), CASD fournira aux utilisateurs des données et de l’information au niveau infranational sur les affaires asiatiques, sur l’implication bilatérale entre l’Asie et le Canada, et sur les tendances émergentes connexes.
- Baccalauréat en traduction ou diplôme d'études universitaires dans une discipline connexe.
- Excellentes compétences en matière de mise en page, de rédaction et de communication, avec un sens du détail.
- 2 à 4 ans d'expérience en traduction de documents anglais en français.
