Reporting to the Mill Controller, the Business Analyst is responsible for adding value to the business and the business decision making process by supporting the manufacturing operations in meeting their cost and efficiency objectives by providing highly quality cost, operating and financial analysis and support. And the position is accountable for accounting support for assigned cost area (chemicals, energy) in the preparation of monthly cost reports and explanations of variances from planned costs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Record/analyze chemical and energy costs. Ensure that the accuracy, timeliness to prepare cost reports and variance analysis.
- Manage all power sales plan and calculate revenue per Energy Purchase Agreement. And to be a coordinator between BC Hydro with mill if any electricity import/output issues.
- Tracking mill electricity cost per Energy Supply Agreement. If any significant market price change, report to Controller and Mill management.
- Prepare the weekly and monthly EBITDA and production operations forecast and analysis.
- Oversee the inventory standard cost functions for HSPPC. To evaluate, maintain, and improve systems and financial controls around the inventory process.
- Evaluate cost control procedures and consumptions trends. And recommend improvements for HSPPC.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests and month-end closing processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliation and analysis.
- Maintain quality service to and effective communication with mill Procurement and PE management regarding the price for chemical materials, and major supplies, as well as energy/chemical consumptions.
- Fully support other division members and provide detail cost analysis, to help them to make the optimal decision.
- Helping annual audit request from internal/external auditors.
- Assist with the implementation of accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) or working towards.
- Post-secondary education with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and strong database analysis skills.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines and multi-task.
- Proven prioritization, time management and task management skills and effective communication skills with internal team.
