Controller (15 Month Contract)

The Granite Club is looking for a Club Controller for a 15-month contract, who will be responsible for the planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions of the Finance department of the Club. The position provides leadership and direction to the finance team to manage/process financial transactions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, maintenance of general ledger, month-end procedures including preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, coordination of the annual audits, and assistance in the preparation of the annual budget and updating of quarterly forecasts. This position requires a hands-on solid communicator with technological, analytical and management skills.

Primary Responsibilities
- Establish high financial standards and implement an environment of continual improvements for internal controls, accuracy and more efficient, automated accounting procedures.
- Oversee and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity. Train and retain the skilled staff.
- Organize and coordinate with external auditors for the Club, Pension Plan and Operational audits.
- Review all monthly reconciliations.
- Review all departmental reports and prepare Club level reports and presentations.
- Manage the Club’s cash flow, working with the bank, ensuring surplus funds are invested appropriately and borrowings are minimized.
- Organization, coordination and preparation of annual operating budget.
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax compliance and Statistics Canada surveys
- Attend Board Committee meetings to support the CFO.
- Ensure accuracy of capital reporting and maintain a 10 year forecast of Capital expenditures.
- Respond to inquiries from staff and Department Managers.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software, as needed
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics

Required Qualifications
- CPA designation required with knowledge of accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)and Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- High level of computer literacy in accounting, spreadsheet and word software
- 5+ years of experience with accounting management in multi-faceted operation
- Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of federal, provincial, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
