**Purchasing Manager**

The Purchasing Manager is responsible to oversee the flow and services to and from the company. This position establishes and maintains the company’s supplier and contractor database.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Comply with all quality, health, safety and environmental regulations, and wearing appropriate personal; protective equipment as required.
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics.
- Works together with QA Manager to establish and maintain quality requirements from external suppliers.
- Ensures that all required documentation is requested, obtained, verified and distributed as required.
- Ensures that MSDS documentation is obtained when ordering product and distributed as required.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with suppliers and contractors to optimize best pricing, delivery and service while continually searching out new suppliers.
- Orders materials and subcontractors as requisitioned and prepares all documentation, maintains appropriate documentation and advises production of delivery schedule.
- Follows up with all suppliers and subcontractors to ensure all materials, deliverables and services are on schedule and advises production.
- Assists the Estimating department to obtain pricing for large quotes.
- Process paperwork for all out of country shipments.
- Other duties as required to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the company.
- Liaise with production
- operation regarding tracking of long -lead items to ensure timely arrival.
- Follow up of subcontractors to ensure on-site / on time arrival.
- Works directly with the production supervisors/ charge hands to ensure product gets ordered in a timely manner. (daily)
- Attends daily production meetings.
**Control of the stockroom**
Access to the stock room by the tradesmen is to be controlled. In the absence of the tool crib manager, purchasing manager can assist the trades, or have someone from production work the storeroom.
**Controls to the Containers**
Access to the containers will be the same as access to the tool crib, it needs to be managed.
**Tools & Equipment**
Company specified tools for this position include but are not limited to:
- Computer equipment and various software programs.
- General office supplies, including telephone.
- A background in Syspro Program would be an asset.
**Skills**
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years experience working in a purchasing department with progressive duties and responsibilities.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory experience considered an asset.
- Previous experience with inventory management and logistics control.
- Previous experience in negotiating supply contracts.
- Must be mature and responsible with a strong work ethic.
- WHIMS training.
- First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean record and Abstract.
- Must possess excellent verbal, organizational and written skills and complete paperwork as instructed.
- Proven experience using mobile technology (tablets, phones, etc.)
- Must be able to wear safety boots and other safety equipment & PPE as required.
- Must be able to perform physical work, including lifting, bending, twisting, walking, standing.
- Must be able to climb ladders as required.
- Must be able to, work both inside and outside in various weather conditions.
- Must be dependable, reliable and punctual.
- Must have a positive attitude and be able to work alone or in a team environment.
- Must be able to perform housekeeping tasks.
- Extra hours of work, over & above Monday to Friday, 7.30 am to 4 pm, will be required based on operational needs.
**Decision Making**
This position has overall decision -making ability for purchasing and all decisions would be carried out within clearly defined policies and procedures.
**Inside/ Outside Relationships**
This position deals with external suppliers and customers routinely and must be able to always maintain a professional and business acumen. This position deals with employees on a daily basis and must be able to maintain a business-like attitude and work as part of a team at all times.
**Position Conditions**
This position works in both an office environment and manufacturing environment and has the flexibility to move around during a shift, including sitting, standing, bending, twisting, carrying and lifting. Working in a manufacturing environment you maybe exposed to dust, fumes, heat, and cold temperatures while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
