As part of the Student Experience portfolio, the Learning Development & Success (LDS) team offers resources and supports to all undergraduate and graduate students at Western. Learning Specialists help students cope with the demands of post-secondary learning, identify strengths, and develop new skills and strategies for success. A range of online resources, drop-in support, group-based programs, and appointments are available for students having academic difficulties, as well as those wanting to sharpen their learning skills.

**Responsibilities**:
The Manager, Learning Development & Success will work under the direction of the Associate Director, Academic Support & Engagement to manage the development, delivery, and ongoing evaluation/assessment of academic success and student retention initiatives. The role will oversee the work of staff, ensure the priorities and objectives of the team are met and assessment plans are developed and applied. The Manager will serve as a knowledge expert and consultant in areas related to the academic success and retention of students - with particular attention and focus on students who are academically at risk. The role will serve as a consultant and resource both within Leadership & Learning/Academic Support & Engagement and at the institutional/faculty level. The Manager will consult with the Associate Director to develop plans for the team to strengthen existing programs and develop new opportunities, supports and services.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Adult Education, Pedagogy or related field

**Experience**:

- 5 years’ experience in student support services with an emphasis on learning skills, retention and student success
- Experience working with diverse and/or under-represented student populations (e.g., international, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+)
- 3 years’ experience supervising staff and projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- In-depth understanding of adult learning theory and best practices
- Proven ability to build reciprocal and sustainable partnerships with internal units and external organizations
- Well-developed public speaking and facilitation skills across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders (e.g., staff, faculty, students, partners, and funders)
- Ability to develop and deliver innovative programs based on best practices, and in response to emerging student and campus needs
- Strong supervisory and coaching skills to facilitate staff development and performance evaluation
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of a team to maximize productivity
- Ability to motivate others to maintain quality services and programming in a constantly changing environment
- Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
- Judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative leadership approach to addressing issues and opportunities
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite
