Bilingual Bookkeeper-Controller (Spanish/English) — Contract-to-Part-Time, Toronto

We are a Canadian-owned retreat and hospitality business with operations in both Canada and Costa Rica. We are seeking a mature, experienced bookkeeper-controller to help us organize and streamline our accounting.

Role:

- Full-time contract (2-3 months) to organize, reconcile, and document all accounts.
- Transition to part-time (weekly meetings in Toronto, flexible hours remotely).

**Responsibilities**:

- Clean up and reconcile Canadian and Costa Rican accounts (multi-currency).
- Set up efficient Chart of Accounts aligned to CRA requirements and hospitality operations.
- Prepare monthly closes, HST/GST filings, payroll oversight (Canada), and coordination with Costa Rican accountant.
- Reconcile Airbnb/booking revenue against payouts.
- Create SOPs and dashboards for ongoing financial clarity.

Qualifications:

- 10+ years of bookkeeping/controller experience.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Deep knowledge of CRA compliance, GST/HST, and Canadian payroll.
- QuickBooks Online (or similar), advanced Excel.
- Professional, organized, reliable; able to meet weekly in person in Toronto.

Engagement:

- Full-time contract for 2-3 months, then transition to ~1 day/week ongoing.

**Role Description**

This is a part-time hybrid role for a Controller Bookkeeper located in Toronto, ON, with some work from home acceptable. The Controller Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing financial statements, performing bookkeeping tasks, using accounting software, overseeing finance-related tasks, and making journal entries. The individual will also handle other finance and accounting-related duties as required to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

**Qualifications**
- Experience with Financial Statements and Finance
- Proficiency in Bookkeeping and Journal Entries (Accounting)
- Skilled in using Accounting Software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
- Relevant certification or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
