**The Organization**

Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. RMHC Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.

We are looking for an **Early Childhood Educator**to join our team at the House, located at 240 McCaul St., Toronto.

**The Role**

The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) supports educational activities within the House. Reporting to the School Principal, the ECE works collaboratively with School and Camp staff, assisting the team in creating a positive learning environment, planning and delivering meaningful activities, monitoring/assessing students and supporting with administrative duties related to registration/monthly metrics. Upholding the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Early Childhood Educators, and the Guiding Principle for RMHC Toronto School are critical components of this role.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Full-Day Learning
- Teach Kindergarten students according to the Ontario Curriculum.
- Plan literacy-based activities in response to the Structured Literacy approach.
- Partner with the School staff to plan and implement inclusive play-based learning and care programs for elementary school children within the RMHC Toronto School setting.
- Collaborate with the School team on the design of programs and environments which will enhance children’s academic, emotional and social development.
- Address individual students’ identified needs, stages of development and interests.

**- ** When required, work 1on1 with students with exceptionalities to support their participation in full-day learning activities.**:

- ** Communicate effectively with parents / guardians, students and staff to improve the development of the students of RMHC Toronto School.**:

- ** Resolve minor disputes between students by encouraging positive guidance strategies.**:

- ** Write Kindergarten Communication of Learning reports.**:

- **Co-design and lead year-round Camp activities with the Programs team. Collaborate and develop program activities for March Break, PD Day and Summer camps.**
**School Readiness Program
- Coordinate the School-Readiness Program for children aged 2.5-4 years of age
- Plan, implement and distribute activities based on the Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) framework to families with preschool-aged children.
- Run weekly educational and interactive sessions for preschool-aged children and their families based on the ELECT framework.

General

**- ** Supervise ECE students completing placements from post-secondary institutions.**:

- ** Process and maintain student attendance information and enrolment data for reporting purposes.**:

- ** Participate in weekly team meetings with School and meetings with Programs team.**:

- **Performs, other duties, as required.**:
**QUALIFICATIONS**

RMHC Toronto understands that for any role, it’s possible that no one person will possess all of the desired qualifications. The following is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important to bring to the position and/or develop while in the role.

**Education & Experience**
- **College diploma in early childhood education. Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.**:

- **Minimum of 2 years of experience in a school setting. Proven experience setting up activities and programs that are age-appropriate for school-aged children.**

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge, understanding and experience implementing the Ontario Curriculum.
- Proven creativity to facilitate the learning for many students with different interests and levels of understanding.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and clarify concerns and concepts to various audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to comfortably interact with all levels of the organization, parents, students and volunteers.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a time-sensitive environment and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SMART Notebook.
- Ability to work effectively within a team, as well as independently.
- Sensitivity to families under stress and appreciation for responding to their needs in a positive and helpful manner.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to bend, stoop and lift child to adult height (up to 20kg) and to move children's furniture or equipment to prepare room for programming needs.
