P**urchasing Assistant -Bilingual (English/Mandarin) - Immediate, Permanent - Full Time**
Link Product Solutions is a leading importer and supplier of seasonal, stationary and kitchen products to major retailers worldwide. We are currently recruiting an experienced full time Purchasing Assistant to join our growing team located at our head office in Vaughan, Ontario.
**Position Summary**:Reporting to the Director of Sourcing and Procurement, the key responsibilities will include purchasing, sourcing of new products, administration duties, travelling to Asia twice annually to visit suppliers, factories and to attend trade shows
- Preparing purchase orders to send to suppliers, verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval for all items
- Regular communication and working with the Product Development team including our China office in the coordination, development and production of new and existing products
- Travelling to China as required with the Buying team to visit suppliers; source new products, factories, suppliers and to attend trade shows
- Obtaining samples of new and updated items, expediting and monitoring of purchases
- Developing the purchasing activities, planning and control of information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
- Managing and organizing discontinued inventory data
- Verifying purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list; clarifying unclear items
- Verifying receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in error with suppliers
- Identifying and resolving delivery and production issues in a timely fashion such as delays, fabric stock for core items; quality issues etc.
- Maintenance of the product line database including prices, vendor, lead time, and packaging info etc.
- Flexibility on work hours with overtime to be worked at peak periods as required
- Ensuring database and marketing material product accuracy
- Managing PO due dates; update and notify internal departments
- Other related duties as directed by the Director of Sourcing and Procurement
**Qualifications**:
Minimum of 2+ years recent Purchasing/Overseas (China) experience in a similar role - working with an importer and basic knowledge on tariff classification an asset
- Excellent/fluent communication in Mandarin and English - verbal and written
- Valid Passport
- Travel to China for 3 - 4 weeks at a time as required
- Travel to US as required
- Advanced Excel, MS Office and Adobe Photoshop skills
- Professional telephone manner and problem solving skills
- Multitasking, detailed oriented with strong negotiation and organizational skills
- Maintaining and building positive relationships with vendors
- Assertive with the ability to meet deadlines and work independently with mínimal supervision in a fast paced environment
- Team player - positive work attitude
- Strong work ethic - willing to work flexible hours in peak periods
- Self-motivated, driven and takes the initiative
- Reliable with excellent attendance and punctuality
