WindEEE Research Facility’s mission is to make global contributions in building resilient and sustainable communities through multidisciplinary wind research, education and innovation.
The Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment (WindEEE) Dome, the world's first hexagonal wind chamber, represents a technological breakthrough in the study of wind related phenomena as it has the capability of physically simulating high intensity wind systems - including tornados, downbursts, gust fronts or low-level nocturnal currents - that cannot be created in any of the existing wind tunnels. The WindEEE Dome is a one of a kind 3D-wind testing facility located off Western University's campus at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in southeast London, Ontario.
**Responsibilities**:
The Research Coordinator will report to the Director, WindEEE and will be responsible for supporting research success at the WindEEE Research Facility through the provision of proactive expertise regarding research grant administration, event and outreach project plans and client support. The role will support day-to-day administrative and financial operations, facilitation of WindEEE’s research objectives, through the support of research grant administration, reporting and by ensuring adherence to Western's and the grant’s policies, procedures and requirements related to research administration. The Research Coordinator will coordinate the successful implementation of various large grant reporting projects, and will ensure that the research outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary constraints. The role will communicate progress updates to the Director and stakeholders. The Research Coordinator will schedule meetings, respond to inquiries related to the research, and support the research and outreach events at the facility.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree in a relevant discipline
- MSc or MEng is preferred
**Experience**:
- 3 years of experience in an academic research environment with research administration processes and systems
- Experience in grant administration, research budgets and monitoring accounts, and event planning is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment and with best practices for reviewing and writing grant reports
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Familiarity with financial principles and budgeting
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from research related portals, both administrative or data repositories
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior management
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the WindEEE Research Facility’s events and activities
- Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Familiarity with University research policies and practices
