Level 2 Ict Technician

Graves is currently seeking an experienced Level 2 ICT Technician to join our growing team in the Halifax N.S. Area. As a Level 2 ICT Technician you will be responsible for installing and troubleshooting voice, data and Wireless networks. You have the ability to follow direction, read and understand design and construction drawings, have general knowledge of telecommunications systems, and possess excellent customer relation and organizational skills. This position offers training and advancement opportunities.
This is a permanent, full-time position. The Level 2 ICT Technician will be involved in all facets of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting communication and low-voltage cabling infrastructure (fibre & copper) throughout commercial, enterprise, industrial, manufacturing, government, healthcare and multi dwelling unit (MDU) buildings in new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Installation and Maintenance:
- Independently perform installation, termination and testing of structured cabling systems.
- Handle cable pulling, termination, and testing of copper and fiber optic cables.
- Install and configure components, devices, attachments and equipment.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques and test equipment.
- Identify and rectify cable faults, signal degradation, and other problems efficiently.
- Mentor Level 1 Technicians in troubleshooting techniques.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of all installation activities, including as-built drawings, test reports, and material usage.
- Provide accurate and timely reports on project progress, milestones and changes.
- Review documentation from Level 1 Technicians for accuracy.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure high-quality workmanship in all installations and terminations.
- Conduct thorough testing and certification of cabling systems to industry standards.
- Verify compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Level 1 Technicians.
- Conduct training sessions on cabling best practices, safety protocols, and industry standards.
- Verify compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and procedures while working on-site.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Project Management Support:
- Assist the Lead Technician in project planning, resource allocation and scheduling.
- Communicate effectively with Lead Technician and other team members.
- Help coordinate tasks and ensure project timelines are met.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to structured cabling.
- Propose improvements to existing processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Implement changes and updates to cabling systems as needed for optimization.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to test, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues.
- Ability to manage workload to ensure jobs are completed on time and budget.
- Job planning skills according to desired timelines, including the dissection of blueprints.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces or isolation.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to - carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment and/or tooling.
- Self-disciplined, motivated and organized
- Basic computer processing skills to submit time sheets and progress reports
**Requirements**:
- Knowledge of general telecommunications systems and components, ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings, familiar with working in a construction environment.
- Supervisory or team lead experience is considered an asset.
- Experience working with CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Alarms considered an asset.
- Previous experience with terminating and troubleshooting fiber optic cable also an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract, reliable transportation to arrive to job sites on time.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required.
- Willingness to travel.
