**REPORTS TO**: Director of QA & Training

**Job Summary**

The Person responsible for the SMS reports to the Director of Quality Assurance and Training. They are responsible formanaging the operation of the SMS program, collecting, and analyzing safety information in a timely manner, monitoring and evaluating the results of corrective actions, ensuring periodic reviews take place to determine the effectiveness of the system and communicating SMS deficiencies/findings to the Accountable Executive.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**

The person managing the SMS is responsible to:

- Implement the safety management plan.
- Implement the safety oversight program.
- Implement procedures with respect to SMS documents and records.
- Implement emergency response procedures.
- Investigate, analyze, and identify the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the SMS.
- Establish and maintain a reporting system to ensure the timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents and accidents that may adversely affect safety.
- Identify hazards and carry out risk management analyses of those hazards.
- Monitor and evaluate the results of corrective actions with respect to hazards and safety events.
- maintain the safety data system, monitor, and analyze trends in hazards, and safety events.
- Monitor the concerns of the civil aviation industry in respect of safety and their perceived effect on the organization.
- Communicate to stakeholders, findings produced by the SMS in respect of a hazard to aviation safety.
- Analyze any information relating to aviation safety that is received from any person with whom the organization exchanges services and take appropriate action to mitigate any hazard to aviation safety; and
- Organize, and determine the effectiveness of safety training.
- Develop and maintain an open and ongoing dialogue with Transport Canada and any applicable outside agencies.
- Perform and uphold Wasaya’s Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external customers.
- Any other related duties as assigned.

**Minimum Skills and Qualifications**
- Post secondary in a related field or combination of education and experience.
- Operational aviation experience is an asset.
- Safety oriented mindset
- Investigative abilities and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate, specifically, Part I, subpart 7, and Part VII, Subpart 5 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations
- Able to keep and reference accurate records.
- Ability to liaise with external stakeholders.
- Able to maintain filing systems and basic databases.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Able to work in a team environment, as well as unsupervised.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.

**Working Conditions**
- Occasional travel is required.
- Weekend and evening work may be required.
- Overtime as required.

**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to lift or move up to 45 lbs.
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Operational risk management: 1 year (required)
