As a Career Counsellor, you will provide career planning and program implementation advice to both civilian and sworn employees within the Calgary Police Service (CPS). You will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, evaluation, and the redesign efforts of the CPS Career Advisement Program. Your primary duties include:
- Implement the Career Advisement Program by providing counseling, career counselling and advisement services, career pathing opportunities and professional development scenarios in the areas of Career Development.
- Liaise with Learning & Development Unit (LDU) in determining relevant learning and training related to internal postings.
- Assist employees with career information and provide guidance on cover letter writing, resume writing and interviewing skills.
- Act as first point of contact for all employees and their superiors to answer their inquiries. This includes collecting specific information in order to make appropriate and effective referrals and initial Unit support plans.
- Instruct the Career Pathways workshops that provide a dedicated time for sworn and civilian employees insight, opportunity and creation of a Career Plan that is integrated with major components of the Career Planning process.
- Clarify, document and provide written feedback to employees and complete Unit level business reports.
- Draft business proposals, new advisement policies and general correspondence with all Career Management internal and external partners.
**Qualifications**
- A certificate in Adult Learning specialized in workplace learning, specializing in career and academic advising or a related field, plus a minimum of 12 years in career development counselling and advising, including experience in program development; OR
- A diploma in Human Resources, Education or a related field, plus a minimum of 10 years in career development counselling and advising, including experience in program development; OR
- A bachelor's degree in Social Science (Psychology, Sociology), Social Work, Human Resources, Adult Education or a related field, plus a minimum of 8 years in career development counselling and advising, including experience in program development.
- Experience providing career counselling/support and developing individual plans is required.
- Experience working in a police and law enforcement organization is considered an asset.
- You must have the following competencies: analytical thinking, change management, coaching and development, communication, efficiency and thoroughness, focus on results and relationship building.
**Pre-employment Requirements**
- An enhanced security clearance is required.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
