**About Us**: Island Crisis Care Society has been dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges in Nanaimo and Oceanside for over 30 years. Adopting a Housing First Philosophy, ICCS aims to provide shelter and care, enabling clients to focus on personal improvement and independence. Our mission is to offer a ‘continuum of care’ through innovative housing strategies and comprehensive support programs, ensuring that clients receive the necessary assistance at every stage of their recovery journey.

ICCS operates 13 programs across 10 housing sites, supporting up to 276 clients daily. Our services range from crisis stabilization at facilities like Crescent House and Safe Harbour to long-term supportive housing at Orca Place and Samaritan Place. Specialized services are provided at The Bridge for those with complex care needs, while transitional housing like Mary’s Place assists clients on their path to independent living. Additionally, our outreach programs and subsidized housing options aid clients in reintegrating into the community.

Beyond housing, ICCS offers programs such as Project Rise and the Life Skills for Community Connection Program, which provide skills training and work experience, helping clients overcome barriers to employment and achieve sustainable recovery.

**Position: Kitchen Helper**

**Role Overview**:
Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) is seeking a dependable and collaborative Kitchen Helper to support food-based initiatives across several ICCS programs. Reporting to the Kitchen Manager of the Rising Hope Kitchen Program, this role contributes to community care through meaningful food preparation and engagement.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work with the Kitchen Manager to further develop the program and promote in the community.
- Prepare sandwiches and other food items for the Drop-In Hub.
- Create materials such as posters and social media posts for the Rising Hope Kitchen Program.
- Participate in food-based Life Skills workshops at various ICCS housing sites.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.

Gain experience in responding to the evolving needs of individuals and the community. Learn to adapt programming based on resources, feedback, and changing circumstances.

Work closely with Program Managers, volunteers, and community partners to achieve shared goals. Strengthen teamwork and relationship-building skills in a supportive environment.

Develop written and verbal communication skills by engaging with diverse audiences, creating promotional content, and facilitating workshops. Learn how to convey information effectively in a clear and approachable manner.

Contribute fresh ideas to enhance the program and community outreach efforts. Explore innovative ways to address food security and education challenges.

**5. Digital Skills**:
Build proficiency with tools like Canva, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms to create promotional materials and manage program documentation.

**6. Problem-Solving**:
Tackle real-world challenges in a kitchen setting, from addressing equipment malfunctions to ensuring participant needs are met. Hone critical thinking and resourcefulness to find effective solutions.
