**In collaboration with the Government of Canada, the Black Business Initiative (BBI) is offering an exciting paid opportunity for youth across Atlantic Canada.**
The **Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS)** Program helps young people who are facing challenges in accessing employment or education. If you are between 15 and 30 and looking to gain valuable skills, paid work experience, and career support, this program is for you.
**What You’ll Gain**:
- Four weeks of paid **job readiness training** focused on communication, digital skills, workplace etiquette, and more
- A 16 week **paid full-time work placement** with a local employer
- **40 hours per week, Monday to Friday** throughout both the training and work placement periods
- One-on-one coaching and support from a dedicated team
- Resume building, interview preparation, and career navigation assistance
- Connections to employers and long-term employment or education opportunities
**Eligibility**:
- Must be between 15 and 30 years old at the time of intake
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, in accordance with federal and provincial/territorial laws and regulations
This program is designed to support youth who may be facing challenges in accessing employment or education. These barriers can include (but are not limited to):
- Limited work experience
- Gaps in employment
- Mental health concerns
- Lack of access to transportation or childcare
- A Newcomer to Canada
- Limited access to education or training opportunities
Youth from all backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. Each participant will complete a confidential assessment as part of the onboarding process.
**Wage**:
Paid hourly during both the training and work placement period.
**Location**:
Open to youth living in Atlantic Canada.
