About the Role
As a Copy Editor, you will:
- Report to the Sr. Producer of Digital in the Parliamentary Bureau.- Assist the Sr. Producer of Digital in managing the flow of digital content in the Parliamentary Bureau.- Collaborate with reporters and writers to craft compelling stories.- Edit, package and publish digital content for various platforms, including web, social media, radio and television.- Spot opportunities for unique storytelling, ensuring accuracy and quality across all outputs.- Lead the charge in creating multimedia-rich content that aligns with audience needs and news developments.
Key Responsibilities- Edit and refine material to ensure quality, accuracy and consistency.- Ensure copy conforms to the CBC Language Guide in terms of style and guidance.- Write concise, SEO-optimized headlines and engaging story descriptions.- Build multimedia content, including photo galleries and videos, to enhance storytelling.- Ensure timely and innovative coverage of breaking and developing news.- Monitor and respond to audience needs across digital and mobile platforms.- Promptly respond to error reports or concerns.
Additional Tasks:
- Perform tasks of a Reporter/Editor as required.- Create simple graphics and interactive tools to enhance reader understanding.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent experience.- At least three years of relevant experience in digital or print journalism.- Expertise in editing, headline writing and multimedia content creation.- Strong understanding of digital platforms, audience engagement and SEO.- Proven journalistic skills and knowledge of current events.
Additional Skills and Assets:
- Familiarity with content management systems and basic HTML.- Experience adapting conventional content for non-traditional storytelling.- Knowledge of image selection, cropping and social media strategies.
