Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will: - Prepare condiments, vegetables and beverages - Assist the cooks with the serving of meals - Clean-up after meal service (ie, clearing and clearing tables, washing trays and dishware, loading the dishwasher, scrubbing pots and pans, and mopping floors, tables and walls) - Remove garbage to disposal area - Transport food supplies from stores, fridges, freezes, and kitchen area - Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen by cleaning and sanitizing floors, sinks, equipment, appliances, storage rooms, freezers, and fridges - Take inventory of fridges, freezers, and storerooms - Ensure the safety and security of staff, cooking ingredients, and kitchen equipment - Provide direction and supervision to inmate helpers **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory**: - You possess a Valid Food Handler Certificate (either currently or previously certified and can obtain re-certification upon hire) - You are able to lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms) at a time or push heavy rolling loads. **Knowledge and Experience**: You have knowledge of: - legislation such as the Public Health Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)to ensure safe food handling and working conditions in the kitchen. - policies and procedures such as the Ministry Food Service Guidelines and Standards and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) to esnure food is prepared in a safe fashion and is served in proper portions according to inmates' dietary needs. - safe food storage procedures. - restricted diet protocols. **Communication and Interpersonal Skills**: - You are able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. - You possess interpersonal skills to supervise and maintain working relationship with Staff and inmate workers. - You have oral communication skills, and exercise tact and diplomacy to deal with mutable layers of staffing, - You have written communication skills to prepare reports. **Analytical Skills**: - You can identify possible hazards and to ensure inmate safety, and that inmate workers are adhering to the rules and the policies and procedures that are in place. - You can recognize shortages of food supplies and reporting to supervisor so that corrective action can be prompt and not cause service delays, in taking appropriate action to replenish supplies when they run low. - You can observe and report any potential problems in food quality, sanitation and hygiene. **Computer Skills**: - You possess basic computer skills to access computer systems available in the food service area. **Additional Information**: **Address**: - 1 English Temporary, duration up to 12 months, 55 Town Centre Crt, Scarborough, Toronto Region, Vulnerable Sector Check, Credit History Check, Local Police Databases Search, PIP/NICHE/RMS **Compensation Group**: - Ontario Public Service Employees Union- Understanding the job ad - definitions - **Schedule**: - 4-7**Category**: - Corrections and Enforcement**Posted on**: - Friday, September 20, 2024**Note**: Required security screening checks along with your written consent, will be sent to the Transition and Security Office (TSO), Corporate Talent Programs Branch, Talent and Leadership Division to evaluate the results.
