Job Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Team Manager, Mental Health, the Mental Health Supervisor makes an impact on the health and health equity of Niagara residents through providing clinical supervision, support and direction to staff of the Mental Health Program. The Mental Health Supervisor contributes to the development, maintenance and evaluation of clinical services within the program and provides part-time therapeutic and consultative services to clients and families as required.

**Education**:

- Bachelor’s degree in health or social science
- Master’s degree preferred

**Knowledge**:

- Three (3) years’ experience in a clinical mental health setting
- Previous experience working with serious mental health diagnosis and best practice standards within a mental health setting
- Registration in respective professional college
- Extensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, assessment, treatment and medication is preferred
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred

**Responsibilities**:

- People Leadership: Supervises_ staff, coordinating and planning work, _providing work direction, assigning tasks and projects, _determining methods and procedures to be used,_ _monitoring quality of work, _resolving problems and ensuring _assigned _results are achieved. (50% of time)_
- Enables results with the organization’s human capital strategy to foster employee engagement.
- In conjunction with the Manager provides training and development, coaching and discipline when necessary, and manages staff recruitment.
- Ensures focus is service excellence, communication/transparency, innovation, and data integrity and work flow integration.
- Ensures staff has the information and resources to make successful plans and decisions.
- Ensures all people related issues, including recruitment, grievances and labour relations issues, are aligned to HR and Corporate standards and practices.
- Ensures the processing of time and attendance for staff, ordering and recording of office supplies, coverage in satellite offices
- Schedules and assigns work to team which aligns with strategic, operational and program level objectives
- Proactively identifies administrative opportunities for team to consolidate work and support other public health division’s/programs
- Develops, coordinates and oversees the ordering, tracking and distribution of purchases and payments of administrative supplies for the program
- Resolves complaints, recording the nature of the complaints and monitoring patterns and making recommendations regarding changes in policies and practices and address issues
- Helps to break down barriers to employee success, ensuring collaboration and cooperation with other teams within their division and department
- Ensures Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, programs and practices are implemented, and maintained. This includes workplace inspections, monitoring, accident reporting and investigations, and ensuring any observed hazards or lapses in the functioning of OH&S processes, and other OH&S concerns are responded to promptly.
- Ensures all individuals under supervision have been informed of hazards and instructed on the necessary risk control and emergency response measures;
- Provides consultation/counseling services (20% of time)_
- Provision of individual, conjoint, and family consultation/counseling to a selected number of clients
- Provision of health teaching of clients and family members related to mental health
