**About the Position**
- The Accounting Technician works within the Finance Department to drive best business practice, entering financial transactions and reviewing accounts to ensure that the entries are suitable and balanced out. They are also responsible for liaising with other employees in the field and writing reports, auditing internal and external work and looking after financial transactions, identifying account discrepancies and attempting to address the problem. The Accounting Technician is a support role that assists Finance with analysis and monitoring financial transactions.

This is a full-time temporary position, with the possibility of extension.

**Position Details**
- Review and process journal entries for entry into general ledger. This includes automated batch feeds, electronic entry, month-end coordination of entries including fixed assets, deferred contributions, interest distribution, GST, suspense accounts, P.O. accrual, and prepaid expenses.
- Perform and complete the accounting cycle at a micro level which includes participating in period close process, month-end and year-end and ensure all entries are posted relating to month end close.
- Analyze and reconcile Polytechnic bank accounts. This includes understanding the AR and AP systems transactions that are captured from various online and ecommerce companies in the bank as well as the GL.
- Reconcile and analyze assigned GL accounts.
- Assist with ongoing development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures for accounting related processes. Assist with documentation of procedures and controls.
- Undertake other relevant tasks/projects requested by other staff members.
- Maintain record of funds received.
- Complete government reports as required.
- Government regulations - review policies and procedures to meet CRA requirements on payables/expenses, receivables/revenues, internal sales, self assessment and file monthly GST returns.
- Create and update accounts and maintain all attributes required in the chart of accounts.

**Required Qualifications**
- Two year diploma in Accounting or related field; combination of education and experience may be considered
- Accuracy, attention to detail, good organizational skills, meeting deadlines and problem solving skills are important to this position
- Computer experience in an integrated ERP is ideal. Strong working knowledge of MS Office suites is essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer service background
- Ability to work well under time-constraints and stressful situations in a fast paced, customer focused environment

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Post-secondary experience

**Salary**
- AUPE Class Level 10 Step 1 $29.28/hr
