Preference will be given to qualified employees within the Full Time Support Staff bargaining unit, Appendix D (in the role for 6 consecutive months) and RPT employees who have passed probation at Mohawk College.

The Training Specialist, Indigenous Projects will be a key role within the Indigenous Initiatives & Education department and will be an important part of the development of the Centre for Indigenous Relations, Knowledge and Learning (CIRKL). The incumbent will offer specialized learning opportunities within the college and with academic, community, and strategic partners contributing to an enhanced learning environment to support Indigenous learners. This position will be responsible for contributing to collaborative partnership with academic and community partners and will support the College strategic plan aspiration to meaningfully advance truth and reconciliation.

**What you’ll be doing**:
**Contributes to design, strategy, processes, training opportunities, and coordinates reporting and communications on special projects, including**:

- Partnership support projects, e.g. the Six Nations Polytechnic Partnership Guide
- Indigenous Knowledge and Learning Outcomes (IKLOs)
- Academic program enhancements, e.g. GO:NZ
- Indigenous Learning Supports, e.g. the Virtual Learning Basket
- Indigenous Professional Development Strategy

**Provides and practices wholistic relationship development from inception through stewardship with community partners and members, including**:

- Receiving first point of contact communications for partnerships and program delivery, including problem-solving and connecting to the appropriate college area or contact.
- Appropriate gathering and meeting protocols and assessing needs of partners through discussion and conversation
- Creates and holds documents to preserve intentions and next steps from meetings and gatherings
- Discussion with partners to ensure all needs are addressed

**Manages tracking of project development cycle from design to delivery and evaluation, including**:

- Coordinating, collecting, and tracking milestone data, including enrollment, community capacity, and partnership opportunities
- Monitors life cycles of special projects including proposals, timelines, and activities
- Reports on progress and milestones with partner institutions
- Assessing community need and market opportunity to identify solutions

**Coordinate and deliver appropriate and accessible learning opportunities within the College and contribute to an environment of learning with Indigenous and non-Indigenous students through programs and special projects**:

- Professional Development opportunities
- Special projects, e.g. the Birch Bark Canoe project

**Leading coordination on specially funded projects**:

- Understanding of tracking multiple projects
- Managing daily project issues
- Aligning projects with community need and organizational strategy
- Interpreting and analyzing project information and frameworks
- Project reporting

**Provides support to Indigenous-focused projects within other college areas, including**:

- Indigenous Student Services (ISS)
- Community Access and Engagement (CAE) Challenge 2025 Initiative

**What you’ll bring to the role**:

- ** **2-year diploma or equivalent in Indigenous studies, Business, Project Management/Coordination, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with Indigenous communities
- Exceptional communication skills
- Working with a budget, tight deadlines, multiple projects, and with projects requiring attention to detail
- Working independently and within a team environment
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities
