**How do you fit in?**

Employees will be working in the Water Treatment Plant and assisting in operating and monitoring the station’s generating units and auxiliary equipment. This includes start-ups, shutdowns and recording equipment performance in accordance with station operating standards, within design operating parameters while ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all plant equipment. This position is on a non-rotating shift and will be on a day-shift schedule.

**What you’ll be doing**:
Under the general supervision of the Operations Coordinator and/or direction of a more senior operator, employees will operate the Water Treatment Plant and associated Cycle Chemistry monitoring equipment.
- Monitoring water treatment plant processes and systems and ensuring they are operated to maintain standards.
- Performing water tests, interpreting results and taking corrective actions to ensure the station’s Cycle Chemistry is maintained within the limits of the Joffre Water Quality Manual.
- Recording Cycle Chemistry data on the daily log sheets / databases and communicating results to Shift Engineer or Operations Coordinator as appropriate.
- Assist with operating and monitoring, the unit boilers, gas turbine generators, steam turbine generator, package boiler, unit auxiliary equipment, and plant electrical equipment within operating parameters.
- Ensuring that the plant equipment is operated within the station environmental license and taking proactive actions on potential environmental contraventions in response to environmental system alarms as provided for in corporate and station policy and informing Shift Engineer and the Operations Coordinator of all contraventions and corrective action taken.
- Interfacing with the various interconnected sites to ensure our customer’s needs are met, and to assist with any coordination of activities with these sites.
- Keeping and maintaining accurate logs of all information relating to the operation and safety of the station equipment, of all process conditions and/or changes in operation activities pertaining to the equipment to both ABSA and station standards.
- Participating in operations tailboard and safe work planning meetings providing information to senior operator(s) regarding equipment status or known hazards to assist in prioritizing work.
- Performing routine rounds throughout the plant to ensure safe and efficient operation by conducting routine equipment checks as required.
- Isolating equipment and assisting with the preparation of permits, identifying hazards, completing/documenting hazard assessment for activities undertaken.
- Performing minor maintenance duties as assigned and working with the maintenance department as required.
- Participating in all training activities with successful completion in a timely manner demonstrating required competency levels.
- Adhering to safe work practices and supporting/participating in the emergency response activities at the station.
- Expectation to complete of all required station training modules and on-the-job training as identified in department progression standards.
- All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation._

**What you must have**:

- Completion of Grade XII, including a pass standing in Math 20, Physics 20 (preference toward Physics 30), English 30 and another 30 level course with four (4) years of related experience **OR** Completion of a two year Power Engineering Technology Program
- A valid 3rd Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience
- Must have a valid Alberta operator’s license (minimum class 5)

This position is located at our Joffre Cogeneration Facility, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Red Deer.
