**What you will be doing**:
You will assist with the development and implementation of drinking water related programs and services such as hydrant fire flow testing, leak detection, hydrant painting, utility locates, and lead sampling. You will also assist with the implementation of regulatory compliance programs as identified in the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002. Additionally, you will gain knowledge through observation of Water Operations staff in performing service calls, water infrastructure installations, repairs and providing preventative maintenance of water infrastructure. This position will also be responsible for maintaining and updating records management through the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other work management programs. This position will also require you to attend site meetings to discuss water distribution system issues, perform contractor site inspections and assist with other problem-solving as needed by Water Operations staff.

**Education**:
Actively pursuing a college diploma or university degree in Environmental Studies or Civil Engineering

**Experience and Knowledge**:

- Currently enrolled in a Civil or Environmental Technology field of study or related program at a recognized educational institute with a co-op placement requirement for educational credits.
- Ministry of The Environment and Climate Change ‘Drinking Water Operator in Training’ certificate would be considered an asset.
- Experience with drinking water infrastructure or sampling/analysis of drinking water would be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License with a clean abstract and access to a reliable vehicle for business purposes.

- Water Distribution or Distribution and Supply Operator-In-Training certificate (issued by MECP)**We will ask you for these items if you are hired**:

- Proof of current or future enrolment in post-secondary education.- Valid G driver's license.- Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)**Your compensation**:
The hourly rate of pay based on the inside workers union co-op grid, has an hourly range of $18.16 - $25.14 per hour.

**Hours of work**:
Hours of work are from Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This co-op placement is available from May-September 2025.

**Advertisement expiration date**:
This student position is funded through a federal grant, to comply with the terms of the agreement the student must be between ages 15 - 30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada.
