Reporting to the Vice President, Communications & Community Partnerships, the **Director of Communications & Marketing** plays a key role in driving revenue, supporting internal fundraising teams and building strong brand awareness for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. This position leads and implements the Foundation’s organization-wide communications strategy. This role ensures strategic alignment in how the Foundation shares its impact stories, manages its brand perception in the community, and communicates its mission to drive donor engagement and support.

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**

Strategic Leadership and Communications

Leads the development and implementation of a foundation-wide communications strategy to effectively share impact stories, manage community perception, and build brand awareness in alignment with and support of fundraising goals.

Works with Director peers across the Foundation to build annual plans that reflect the organization’s priorities, and building department budgets and plans to support related prioritiesLeads the integration and optimization of marketing strategies for the Foundation’s new CRM and its marketing platformOversees the development and execution of social media and PR strategies to support Foundation objectives.Oversees the Foundation’s communications and marketing activities, ensuring alignment across all fundraising areas, including leadership and major donor proposal development and stewardship, annual giving campaigns, and legacy giving materials.Monitors emerging trends in marketing, communications, and technology to continuously innovate and improve the Foundation’s strategies and tools.Acts as a lead strategist for Leap magazine and collaborates with direct reports to execute its biannual publication.
- Serves as a recommender for the Foundation’s Report to Our Community in support of the Donor Impact and Engagement Team.

Marketing and Communications Implementation

Support the marketing and communications activities of the Alberta Cancer Foundation Lottery, in partnership with external agencies, ensuring successful execution of campaigns.Oversee social media and PR strategies to ensure cohesive messaging across platforms, positioning the Foundation as a thought leader in philanthropy through strategic storytelling that highlights its impact in cancer care and research.Establish KPIs and regularly evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategies using analytics and reporting tools to drive data-informed decision-making.Supervise the team responsible for website strategy and maintenance, and the creation of marketing, communications and donor impact collateral while ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s brand standards.Partner with external agencies for ad buys and other campaigns, providing oversight to achieve strategic goals.Develop and implement a strategy for managing persona-based communication and digital marketing activities through MCAE (the Foundation’s CRM).
- Oversee the development of internal communications strategies and all print collateral management.

Operational and Team Leadership

Cascade strategy and business decisions, help navigate change and remove roadblocks for direct reports to enable their success.

Provide ongoing coaching and direction by working together with direct reports to develop individual work plans and plans to achieve set directives and goals.Create a positive environment of trust, support and recognition, where development and performance thrive.Lead the recruitment, retention, and performance management of direct reports, fostering a high-performing team aligned with organizational goals.Lead change management efforts by effectively communicating and engaging stakeholders during major organizational initiatives, including rebranding or campaign launches.Represent the MarComms team at the Directors Forum and provide strategic input for business and staff planning.
- Manage departmental budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and adherence to financial plans.

**Required Qualifications**

University degree in business, marketing, or communications.
